PART 3 EXECUTION

Best management practices shall be applied to all phases of the project.

3.1 PLANTING WETLAND HERBACEOUS PLUGS: GROUND PREPARATION

3.1.1 Preparation of Wetland Herbaceous Seeding and Plugs Ground

Before planting the plugs, the soil of the Wetland Herbaceous Seeding and Plugs floor shall be tilled to a depth of six inches by disking, harrowing, rototilling, or other approved operation. The surface of the Wetland Herbaceous Seeding and Plugs ground shall be graded to leave no more than plus or minus 2-inch surface relief. Roll and rake the surface to remove ridges and fill depressions as required to meet finish grades. Limit the grading to areas which can be transplanted immediately after grading. Any area impacted by wind or water erosion prior to planting shall be restored as previously defined. Areas eroded after planting shall be replanted to obtain an even growth throughout the Wetland Herbaceous Seeding and Plugs floor. Moisten prepared areas before planting if soil is dry. Water thoroughly and allow surface to dry before planting.

3.2 PLANTING OF WETLAND HERBACEOUS PLUGS

The Contractor shall reference the Planting Plan in the contract drawings and shall plant plugs in the areas labeled Wetland Herbaceous Seedign and Plugs. Planting of Wetland Herbaceous plugs shall be accomplished by transplanting of the 10 cubic inch plugs. The 10 cubic inch transplants shall be inserted into the soil to the depth of the root system up to the base of the plant. Roots should not be exposed above the soil surface.

The Wetland Herbaceous plugs (10 cubic inch containers) shall be planted at 3 foot centers throughout the Wetland Herbaceous Seeding and Plugs areas as delineated in the plans. Planting may be done with the use of a dibble planter or similar device. A plug location specific plan shall be submitted by the Contractor for approval by the Contracting Officer's Representative. It shall be the Contractors responsibility to inform the Contracting Officer's Representative of conditions which may prove detrimental to the survival of these plants and of any necessary grading modifications to the environment that may be necessary to address these factors.

SECTION 32 92 27 Page 5

3.3 TIME OF PLANTING

In order to maximize the growth potential of all plant species to be used in this project, Wetland Herbaceous Seeding and Plugs planting shall only be allowed during mid-June to mid-July after spring runoff. It is ideal for the plugs to be planted at a time where there are moist soil conditions, but without inundation/flooding conditions. It is the Contractor's responsibility to insure that construction activities allow for planting of the plants during this timeframe. The Contracting Officer's Representative should be contacted for approval of any proposed planting times outside these timeframes.

3.4 WATERING

The plugs shall be maintained in a viable condition and not allowed to dry out prior to and immediately after installation.

3.5 MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR (1 Year Establishment Period)

The planted areas shall be maintained and protected against damage until all work in the contract has been completed and accepted. If at any time prior to completion and acceptance of the contract work the planted areas are damaged by erosion, trespass, or other cause, the areas shall be repaired and replanted as originally specified at the Contractor's expense.

3.5.1 Annual Monitoring Plan and Report

A monitoring plan prepared by the Contractor will be required. The Contracting Officer's Representative will have success criteria. The Contractor shall submit an Annual Wetland Herbaceous Seeding and Plugs Monitoring Report to the Contracting Officer prior to September 1st of each year, which shall include a vegetation baseline before construction/planting begins and current condition of Wetland Herbaceous Seeding and Plugs vegetation including overall cover by native Wetlands Herbaceous Seeding and Plugs species and non-native species and shall be reviewed and approved by the Contracting Officer's Representative. Based on this report, corrective measures may need to be established and implemented. The Contractor will record physical conditions of planted/seeded areas in their As-Built Drawings.

3.5.2 Weed Management

Weed management will also be required during the 1 Year establishment period. Installed areas shall be kept free of noxious weeds and other undesired vegetation. When application of an herbicide becomes necessary to remove a noxious or problem weed, an herbicide treatment plan shall be submitted and coordinated with the installation pest management program.

Herbicide use must comply with the Weld County Public Works Weed Management Policies and Procedures (https://www.weldgov.com/departments/public_works/weed_management/). Weld County Public Works Weed Management Coordinator shall be the technical representative, and shall be present at all meetings concerning treatment measures for weed control and may be present during treatment application.

3.6 REPLANTING

Any areas which fail to show a uniform stand for any reason shall be replanted with the specified transplants until a viable stand is established. Final acceptance will not be made until eighty-five percent

SECTION 32 92 27 Page 6

(85%) of the transplanted area shows living vegetation. Retransplanting shall be repeated at the Contractor's Expense until final acceptance.
