PROJECT WORK ITEMS DETAILS:
A. Weld existing trough end box lids in place.
The Contractor shall weld down the four existing trough plates to the existing pit frame with
SMAW 7018 - ¼ x ¼” fillet welds in a skip pattern consisting to 1 inch long weld every 6 inches entirely around each plate to the pit frame and 1” of weld on each side of each corner. The weld area shall be prepared by grinding away any paint and rust to provide clean metal to weld to. All welds shall be primed and painted to match the existing color with spray paint.
B. Demo fairlead concrete, and paving at runway edge.
Demolish concrete ramp and platform that housed the fairlead beam at the runway edge in its entirety. Concrete base under fairlead beam ramp and platform will be demolished no less than 6” below existing runway edge height. Provide a base course compacted to 98% compaction or like leveling material to provide a sound base upon which to pave on. The Contractor shall pave two-three lifts of PG 64-28 to bring this area level with runway edge and slope. The asphalt cut will match existing runway edge line. All rubble must be cleaned up and hauled off site nightly.
For further details on the Asphalt composition see Asphalt specification in the project documents.
C. Removal of arresting barrier system sign bases.
Remove the aircraft arresting barrier concrete sign base in their entirety and fill holes with native soil to finish grade and compact holes in no greater than 8” lifts to achieve 95% compaction.
Contractor to remove and dispose of concrete of the Airport property.
D. Excavating/removing tape tubes, and tape tube supports.
Remove approximately 138’ of 12” ID tape tube per barrier side. Length will be verified by contractor. Tape tube will be cut off at the face of the barrier pits and holes will be capped with a
¼” thick metal plate covering the entire hole welded on the barrier pit pipe penetration hole. The void left in the pit wall shall be and filled with a 4000psi non-shrink grout. Trench must be infilled nightly and compacted to a 95% compaction density. Do not excavate more than can be backfilled nightly. 11 concrete supports under tape tube will be removed in their entirety.
The pipe will be salvaged by the Airport and hauled by the Contractor to a location on the Airport property as determined by the Project Engineer. Any rubble from supports will be removed from the site nightly. Contractor to remove and dispose of concrete of the Airport property.
E. Clearing vegetation and stripping topsoil
Strip suitable topsoil from the site where excavation or grading is indicated and stockpile enough topsoil to cap regraded area with a 4” of topsoil. This topsoil shall be stockpiled separately from other excavated material. Material unsuitable for use as topsoil shall be stockpiled and used for backfilling. Locate topsoil so that the material can be used readily for the finished grading. Where sufficient existing topsoil conforming to the material requirements is not available on site, provide borrow materials suitable for use as topsoil.
F. Grading raised area to match surrounding area
Grade excess soil berm material located over tape tube between barrier pit and runway edge.
Spread material throughout adjacent area matching existing grade and filling any low spot available. Finished product must match existing. All excess clean material will be hauled and disposed of Airport property. Any contaminated material shall be disposed of offsite at no cost to the Government. The Contractor shall survey the final grading product with the Government
Representative present to prove that the drainage requirements are met.
G. Replacing topsoil
Before placing any topsoil the shaped surface area shall be loosened by disking or spike-tooth harrows, or by other means approved by the Contracting Officer Representative, to a minimum depth of 2 inches to facilitate bonding of the topsoil to the covered subgrade soil. Prior to dumping and spreading the topsoil on any area
Grades on the area to be top soiled shall be maintained in a true and even condition.
Place stock piled topsoil evenly over any disturbed areas.
The topsoil shall be evenly spread on the prepared areas to a uniform depth of 4” after compaction, unless stated otherwise by Civil Engineering or Contracting Officer.
Spreading shall not be done when the ground or topsoil is frozen, excessively wet, or otherwise in a condition detrimental to the work. Spreading shall be carried on so that turfing operations can proceed with a minimum of soil preparation or tilling. If additional topsoil is needed it is the contractors responsibility to provide topsoil that is at least of equal quality to that which exists in areas adjacent to the area to be repaired. The soil shall be relatively free from large stones, roots, stumps, or other materials that will interfere with subsequent sowing of seed, compacting, and establishing turf, and shall be approved by the contracting officer or engineer before being placed.
After spreading, any large, stiff clods and hard lumps shall be broken with a pulverizer or by other effective means, and all stones or rocks (2 inches or more in diameter), roots, litter, or any foreign matter shall be raked up and disposed of by the Contractor.
H. Seeding
See Seeding specification for further details
I. Capping barrier pit penetrations at roof top and sealing precast roof slab joints
Cut off and cap pit intake, pit exhaust, and engine exhaust with a painted 1/4” thick painted metal cap on each penetration so that the caps are tight to the roof The caps shall be sealed to prevent water intrusion with a bead of silicone caulk and secured by bolts or welds. The barrier pit precast roof slab joints shall be sealed with foam backer rod and a Sikaflex SL-1 or like product.
J. Asphalt Milling and Patching
Mill asphalt areas shown in the drawings to a depth of 2” and Patch approximately 1150 sqft of asphalt. This patching will occur at the four barrier location on the Rnwy 03/21.
Based upon the above mentioned work items the Contractor shall submit a Work Progression
Plan 15 work days prior to start of work describing start time, time for each task, number of personnel at the job site, and estimated project completion time in a GANTT chart format.
