STATEMENT OF WORK
General
Furnish and deliver two lifting assemblies that are used for moving and placing steel stoplogs in the MacArthur Lock Chamber and the Poe Lock Chamber at the Soo Locks facility in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Each lift assembly is designed to lift existing stoplogs that are specific to each respective lock chamber.
Each lifting beam assembly is composed of two main structural steel wide flange sections that are fracture critical members and are spliced in two locations to allow shipping each lifting beam in three sections. The wide flange sections are connected with structural steel channels that support hook and latch mechanisms for attachment to the stoplogs. All structural steel shall have a protective coating to prevent corrosion. Each end of the lifters includes cast iron rollers that help slide the lifter in the stoplog slots of the lock chamber. Each lifting assembly also includes fabrication of a wire rope sling and yoke. See the Drawings and Specifications for detailed requirements.
Fabrication
Submittal, review, and approval of shop fabrication drawings shall be required in accordance with the Specifications.
From approved shop drawings, the Contractor shall fabricate, test, and deliver the two different sized steel lifting beam assemblies to the facility in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Steel shall conform to requirements of ASTM A709, Grade 50 or ASTM A572, Grade 50. All welding shall be in accordance with AWS D1.5.
Dimensions
Poe Lock Lifting Assembly: 114 feet long x 8 feet wide
Total Weight = 25,000 pounds, Lifting Capacity = 99,200 pounds
MacArthur Lock Assembly: 84 feet long x 6 feet wide
Total Weight = 19,000 Pounds Lifting Capacity = 70,000 pounds
Delivery
The lifting assemblies are required to be delivered no later than December 7, 2018.
