QUESTION & ANSWERS

Q1. We believe the specified system will be oversold to the government, as it provides some capabilities that won't ever be needed or used. We have some more economical versions we'd like to present based on better understanding of the application, therefore we are asking to incorporate FAR Clause 52.237-1 to allow for a site visit for all firms, to better understand the application?

A1. There is no benefit to conducting a site visit. Site visits are for contractors to see the working space in installation situations not for the Government to display all the different application situations. We are using the laser CMM to measure large components for dimensional accuracy that can't be put on a standard CMM table.

Q2. Data output rate of at least 1,000 measurement points per second.

What is the technical reason for the output of 1,000 points per second? For standard inspection, output rates of 400 to 500 points are more than acceptable. Unless the tracker is being used in a closed loop feed-back correction for machine tool applications or correcting robot path, there is no need for it. We suggest having this requirement removed.

A2. The higher measurements per second is higher rate of data acquisition which creates higher resolution and more detailed scans.

W911N218Q0022

Q3. Max angular velocity of 180°/sec.

Why is Max angular velocity specified? The speed of the tracker rotation does not speed up the measurement of points during the inspection process, especially when the specified brand takes two hours to warm up. We would like to better understand the application or have this requirement removed.

A3. The Purchase description has been modified to remove this requirement.

Q4. Stereo color cameras field of view of 50°.

Our cameras have a 360 degree field of view, since they rotate with the tracker. Would this work with the application?

A4. No. The dual cameras allow for a wider field of view without rotating the head. Each camera having a field of view of 50° without rotating the head allows for quicker point acquisition.

Q5. Class 1 Laser.

We have Two class 1 lasers that work in combination (AIFM) which when combined provide a system with an eye safe class 2 rating. Usually eye safe class 2 rating is specified in Government facilities. Why is not the eye safe class 2 rating specified here? Will the management accept a laser tracker that is not rated eye safe at Letterkenny?

A5. Per ANSI standards, Class 1 lasers are eye safe and safer than a class 2 laser. We are not asking for an unsafe laser. Multiple beams are susceptible to drift error.

Q6. Can someone provide a better description for the following items?

A6. D-ACC-06054-000 Laptop Stand Package----Should be Part Number: C-ACC-06054-000. tripod Stand and platform to set laptop on, securely, for use of system. It needs to be mobile and able to be moved within shop. Also, its height and position to the operator should meet ergonomic standards.

15258 Tripod, Stand Extension-------40” Tripod Stand Extension. Riser used to increase the height any rolling stand, tripod, magnetic mount, or surface plate mount.

C-ACC-05455-002 Target Tooling Kit----------softcase storage for targets and accessories

Q7. We need to know the quantities required on the following items:

A7. 950-01942 1.5" Heavy Duty BR SMR--------------1

C-ACC-05432-000 1.5" Target Drift Nest------------------10

Q8. Are IUID labels required?

A8. Yes, as an equipment item 252.211-7003 ITEM UNIQUE IDENTIFICATION AND VALUATION (MAR 2016) is included in the solicitation in full text.
