17. Is the intent of plan page M-601, note 14 on the New Air Handling Unit Schedule and note 16 on the new roof top package unit Schedule to sole source the equipment on this job?
No, the contractor shall provide and install HVAC equipment equal or equivalent to the ones scheduled on sheet M-601. The new air handling (A-AHU-1) and roof top package (A-RTU-1) units must match existing curbs, and supply/return penetrations without the need for a curb adaptor. The notes are used for references only.
18. Specification section 23 73 13.00, page 1935, calls for cabinets and casing that are double walled with 2” insulation. Plan note on M-601, note 6 on the New Air Handling Unit Schedule, calls for 3” double wall, R-19 injected foam insulation. Which insulation is acceptable, as Ft Hood has primarily used air units both indoors and outdoors with 2”, R-13 foam insulation? Only one manufacturer makes a 3” double wall unit.
New air handling unit shall be rated for outdoor and have a 3” double wall galvanized steel construction as scheduled (drawing notes supersede the specs). There are more than one manufacturer that make a 3” double wall unit.
19. On M-601, new air cooled chiller schedule, the scheduled tons at 105 ambient is 135 tons.

135 tons at 105 Deg. F ambient.
20. Ft Hood has primarily used scroll chillers in this size range. Will a scroll chiller be acceptable as long as it meets the efficiency and electrical requirements? DPW area maintenance service shops have all been trained on the use and servicing or air cooled scroll chillers so DPW is not reliant upon a manufacturer to work on the machine once the warranty has expired.
New chiller requires to have screw compressors. Existing chiller has screw compressors and was chosen as the least cost option for this facility considering operating cost, capital cost, energy efficiency, long-run, and etc.
21. On M-601, the New Air Handling Unit Schedule, note 10 states the chiller must be Buy American Act Compliance. Are the York chillers still being manufactured in the JCI York, Monterrey, Mexico plant acceptable?
All HVAC equipment shall comply with the Buy American Act. Manufacturer shall provide you with a letter stating whether their products are compliant with the Buy American Act or not.
