SCOPE OF WORK FOR ARAT II RENOVATION

a. Transfer assets from storage to the maintenance site. Once at maintenance site, place assets in temporary storage at the west end of the building.

b. Cut banding and remove clip locks from Pallet Box. Remove the clip locks using either the box opening tool attached to the pallet box, or a small pry bar.

c. Unpack Pallet Box. Set pallet box on lift. Remove the top and one side of the pallet box.

Unload the fiberboard boxes with tiles inside by starting at the top, and raising the lift as you go. Place fiberboard box on table.

d. Unpack Fiberboard Box and Barrier Bag. Open the fiberboard box using a non-sparking knife, or other approved means. Once fiberboard box is open, remove barrier bag from the fiberboard box.

Open barrier bag using non-sparking scissors, a non-sparking knife, or other approved means. Remove the armor tile in cushioning bag from the barrier bag. Remove the armor tile from the cushioning bag.

Remove the end wraps. Remove the hand strap from the armor tile if it is present. Transfer armor tile to operation NO. 4 in SOP if the angle brackets are damaged. Transfer serviceable fiberboard box, and serviceable barrier bag IAW SOP operation NO. 11. Transfer the cushioning bag to operation NO. 13 IAW SOP. Transfer serviceable strap IAW SOP operation NO. 12.

e. Inspect and Segregate Armor Tile. Identify the armor tile by NSN, DODIC, and Lot Number.

Inspect the armor tile for cracks, distortion/dents, corrosion, penetration/holes, partial detonation, scratches, missing paint, illegible markings, missing tile cover/parts, evidence of internal contamination, and loose parts. Install eye bolts at the top of the angle brackets for hanging of the tiles. Transfer serviceable armor tile IAW SOP operation NO. 5, and unserviceable armor tile with damaged angle bracket IAW SOP operation NO. 4.

f. Repair Inner Plate Weldments. Receive unserviceable, repairable armor tile with damaged inner plate weldments. Receive bracket installation tool. Secure armor tile with inner plate weldments facing upward in locally fabricated fixture on workbench. Bend damaged (bent, distorted) inner plate weldment by using pliers and/or non-sparking hammer, as necessary. Inspect inner plate weldments for serviceability (free of cracks) or loose components. Gage armor tile for serviceability. If inner plate weldments cannot be repaired using these procedures, it is considered unserviceable and unrepairable.

g. Remove Paint and Corrosion. Use sandpaper (or, alternatively, a scouring pad) to remove rust/corrosion, dirt, and paint from the tile by hand. Ensure that all traces of corrosion are removed. Use an alcohol dampened rag to remove loose rust/corrosion, dirt, or paint from tile.

h. Repair Armor Tile. Secure the tile to the worktable. Ensure that edges of holes do not protrude outward above the tile cover surface. Remove all residue from the damaged area. Use automobile metal filler, or equivalent, to inject or caulk defects. Smooth over filled gaps within the required curing time so that sealing compound/caulk is flat to the surface of the tile. Remove any excess sealing compound/caulk within the required curing time. Allow sealant time to fully cure before proceeding.

i. Prime Armor Tile. Make sure surface of tile is clean IAW SOP. Make sure the cap screw holes are covered. Mask the rubber strip on back of armor tile with masking tape. Activate the spray booth ventilation system. Mix the primer IAW manufacturer’s directions. Spray primer on the surface of the tile. Leave tile on the monorail until it is dry enough to apply CARC topcoat.

j. Paint Armor Tile. Make sure that the surface of the tile is clean. Ensure that the cap screw holes in the tile cover are covered. Ensure that the masking tape covering the rubber strip on the back of the tile still remains. Mix the CARC paint IAW manufacturer’s instructions. Fill sprayer reservoir with paint. Activate the spray booth ventilation system. Painter must be wearing supplied air respirator.

Spray the entire surface of the tile. Unload the tile from the monorail, place on approved gantries, and move the painted tile to the drying area.

k. Mark Armor Tile and Packaging Material. Receive armor tile from operation NO. 16 and wood box from operation NO. 2 or storage. Receive fiberboard box from operation NO. 2 or storage. Wipe down the area to be marked. Apply markings using stencil, stamp, or other approved means. When applying markings, make sure to apply the correct NSN and DODIC for green tiles. When marking fiberboard box, obliterate serial number, and do not reapply serial number. IAW JMC instruction, we are not required to maintain the identification of the serial numbers. See attached pages that show how markings should be applied.

l. Install Rubber Strip. Receive armor tile. Receive rubber strip (P/N 13018299-1) from storage.

Use a clean wiping rag dampened with denatured alcohol to wipe the surface for rubber strip. Apply a ribbon of adhesive approximately 6-10mm wide around the perimeter and a sinusoidal pattern onto rubber strip to facilitate even adhesion. Install lower rubber strip (P/N 13018299-1) to the inner plate (inside surface of the armor tile), IAW drawing 13018305.

m. Install Strap. Attach footman strap by threading through the footman loop, and then slide the end of the strap through the strap’s buckle.

n. Pack Armor Tile in Barrier Bag. Place the end wraps on the tile. Place armor tile in barrier bag.

Verify markings on barrier bag are correct. Seal barrier bag IAW directions in operation NO. 13.

o. Pack Armor Tile and Bracket Kit in Fiberboard Box. Verify that the markings on the fiberboard box are correct. Receive mounting bracket kit (P/N 13023690) from storage. Place foam end caps into the fiberboard box. Place barrier bag in the fiberboard box. Place mounting bracket on top of the barrier bag. Add packing material (as needed) into the fiberboard box to achieve a tight pack. Close and seal the fiberboard box.

p. Pack 31 Fiberboard Boxes in Pallet Box. Assemble pallet box using manufacturer’s instructions and unitization drawing 4221/25 but leave the top and one side off to allow for pallet loading. Place pallet box on lift. Verify that the markings on the pallet box are correct and match the markings on the fiberboard box. Place fiberboard boxes in pallet box, and lower lift each time a row is completed for easier packing. Insert packing material as needed to ensure tight pack in pallet box. Place packet of drawings on top of the top layer of fiberboard boxes IAW drawing 13018657. Close the pallet box and apply strapping and seals. Ensure watertight seal on pallet box with caulking. Make sure to put clip locks on pallet box. Make sure that box opening tool is secured to the top of the pallet box. Transfer tiles in pallet box to temp storage on west end of the building.
