CONTRACT SPECIALIST
Correct Safety Deficiencies at Loading Dock Contractor RFI’s and VA/AE Responses Please see below RFI’s and VA/AE Responses below:
RFI 1: Drawing S201 has detail 2/S301 showing reinforcement to the existing loading dock wall. We need to know the extent of the repair. No measurements are provided.
VA/AE Response: RFI TO BE RESPONDED TO IN SEPARATE AMENDMENT BY 11/302017 RFI 2: Section 4/S301 show bottom reinforcement for the new deck leveler.
1 – Drawings have notes showing it as 4/S201, need clarification.
2 – Along the length of leveler wall it showed to provide cont. galvanized L3x3x1/4. We need details to construct the two side walls.
VA/AE Response: RFI TO BE RESPONDED TO IN SEPARATE AMENDMENT BY 11/302017 RFI 3: Section 1/S201 indicates compacted fill in between existing and new wall. What is the purpose of this fill? Also is the new wall and top concrete a monolithic pour? If yes then how can contractor place the compacted fill after the pour?
VA/AE Response: RFI TO BE RESPONDED TO IN SEPARATE AMENDMENT BY 11/302017
RFI 4: What are working hours for the replacement of concrete pavement?
VA/AE Response: See Site Phasing notes on drawing CS102. There are numerous phases in order to support the continued operations of the loading dock service for deliveries to the Medical Center.
RFI 5: Please confirm if the thickness of existing/removed concrete pavement is 8" thick?
VA/AE Response: Existing thickness of concrete to be removed is approximately 8-10”.
RFI 6: Plan AE103 Door schedule – Door 05 – is a double acting door shown as a pair of 3/0 x 7/0 doors. The referenced detail 8/AE103 indicated a pair of 4/0 x 7/0 doors. Please advise correct size
VA/AE REPLY: Door 05 is 8’ as per detail.
RFI 7: Please indicate thickness of existing concrete pavement scheduled for removal?
VA/AE RESPONSE: See notes and details in drawing S301.
RFI 8: Please specify what reinforcement is scheduled for the New 8” Thick Concrete Pavement. Plan S303 – Typical Ramp/ Pad shows 4 x 4 W4.0 x W4.0 WWM but the concrete pavement detail does not indicate any reinforcement other than smooth dowels at contraction joints. Please advise what to use for reinforcement in concrete pavement?
VA/AE REPLY: RFI TO BE RESPONDED TO IN SEPARATE AMENDMENT BY 11/302017
RFI 9: Plans AE102 & AE103 indicate existing storage building with existing columns, steel beams and steel trusses which are all scheduled to remain. Detail 1/AE103 states - to apply a 1 hr rated sprayed Fireproofing over all exposed steel framing members including columns, beams & trusses. Please indicate the number of existing steel trusses or please indicate what the existing truss spacing is oc?
VA/AE REPLY: There are 3 trusses.
RFI 10: Please advise if the existing steel decking that is to remain, is to also receive a full coverage of spray fireproofing and to what rating if in fact the decking is to be covered?
VA/AE REPLY: See Note 1 and 6 of drawing AE102
RFI 11: Plan AE103 / Detail 3 – Metal Roof Panel Detail – Indicates existing metal decking with a (new) nailable sheathing and (new) building paper on the sheathing. The metal panels then attach to the nailable sheathing. Question – Please advise what thickness and type of plywood sheathing is required?
VA/AE REPLY: See Metal deck notes in drawing S001.
RFI 12: Plan S001 Foundation & Soil Preparation notes – Item 5 – specifies a 6” layer of compacted open graded stone overlaying a 16” min thick layer of structural fill compacted. Plan S303 details referencing concrete pavements, stone and subgrades shows only a “Compacted subgrade”. Please confirm the requirement to install 16” of structural fill under the 6” layer of open graded stone at all concrete pavement locations?
RFI 13: Reference item 7 above, this affects how much of a cut will be required to install 16” of structural fill at the concrete pavement locations. This is a substantial amount of area and depth (which means a substantial amount of cut fill to be removed off site) and we cannot find anywhere in the plans or specs if the owner has had soils testing completed to as to be able to classify such soils? Please advise
SPECIAL NOTE TO BIDDERS: ALL RFI’S ABOVE THAT DO NOT INDICATE A RESPONSE WILL BE ANSWERED IN SEPARATE AMENDMENT BY 11/30/2017. A FINAL AMENDMENT WILL BE ISSUED TO RESPOND TO THESE RFI’S (#1,2,3,8,12,AND 13) NO LATER THAN 11/30/2017. BIDS WILL BE DUE ON THURSDAY, 12/7 AT 3PM. BID LOCATION IS JAMES J. PETERS VAMC, GC-100 CONFERENCE ROOM.
END OF RFI’S
