About this file

This file is a survey script and instructions document for South Carolina's data collection and consultation initiative. The document outlines a standardized survey instrument designed to gather information from high school graduates regarding their education, employment, and living situations during the year following graduation. The survey collects data across multiple indicators, including participation in continuing education programs (four-year colleges, community and technical colleges, certificate programs, GED completion, and short-term training), military service, employment status, work hours and wages, agency support received, and living arrangements. The script provides specific guidance for surveyors conducting telephone interviews, including required introductory language, survey identification procedures, and district selection protocols. The interview duration is estimated at five minutes, with provisions for scheduling alternative contact times if respondents are unavailable.

The survey instrument includes structured rating scales for assessing the adequacy of secondary school preparation in specific competency areas, including career and vocational skills, money management, job seeking and job keeping skills, work experience, and self-advocacy. Additionally, the survey captures qualitative information regarding post-secondary experiences and the impact of COVID-19 on respondents' trajectories. The document emphasizes the provision of resource information and referrals to employment and educational support services upon survey completion, with email delivery options for additional assistance materials. This data collection effort appears designed to track outcomes and inform program improvements for secondary education institutions within South Carolina.
