Statement of Work Byron, GA Greenhouse Evaporative Cooling System Replacement

CPAIS ID: 660605B002, 660605B003, 660605B004, 660605B005

Overview The Southeastern Fruit and Tree Nut Research facility in Byron, Georgia has four greenhouses. These greenhouses have concrete slabs with concrete masonry unit (CMU) stem walls supporting the greenhouse peaked roof structure. The Greenhouses have been recently renovated with 8 mm twin wall polycarbonate glazing, roof and side wall vents with rack and pinion that run the length of the greenhouses and two exhaust fans per bay. The vents, exhaust fans, heaters and evaporative cooling system are all set up on an automated thermostatically controlled ventilation system.

This Statement of Work (SOW) is for the replacement of the deteriorating evaporative cooling system that was not part of the recent renovation for hurricane damage. This replacement will improve conditions that will provide fully functional greenhouses to support research.

The greenhouses are approximately 26’ wide by 84’ long, totaling 2,200 ft each with three (3) bays (not equal size), supported on 3’ high concrete block stem walls, with concrete slab floors. Each greenhouse is glazed above the stem wall to about 8’ with a roof peak approximately 16’ above grade with an 8 mm twin wall (Lexan) polycarbonate glazing system with aluminum glazing bar system. The greenhouses have double loaded roof and single side wall vents.

The current evaporative cooling system is stainless-steel for a 4” x 36” pad with sump pump and are installed in all 12 bays. The below drawing shows bays 1 & 4 and they are approximately 29’6”’ in length, bays 2 & 5 are approximately 19’4”, bays 3 & 6 are approximately 29’6”, bays 7 & 10 are approximately 19’4”, and bays 8, 9, 11 & 12 are approximately 29’6-8”.

With these measurements being approximate, interested contractors shall take field measurements and perform site inspections to validate entire size and scope of project.

Evaporative Cooler Typical Requirements The four greenhouses are currently equipped with a sump pump evaporative cooling system that will need to be replaced by a self-contained evaporative cooling system that is a more efficient design with the intent to be fully integrated with the existing thermostatic control system. Here are some of the required features and activities that will need to be completed:

Required features

• Stainless Steel Cooling System for 4” x 36” pads

• Self-contained water trough

• Standard bleed line to prevent buildup of salts and minerals

• Float Valve water hose attachment that will automatically refill trough as evaporation occurs Link to acceptable requirement specification - All submittals must be equal to or exceed these specs.
