About this file

This statement of work outlines requirements for procuring benchtop centrifuges for the USDA Agricultural Research Service. The agency seeks to purchase one refrigerated and two non-refrigerated benchtop centrifuges by October 1, 2023 for use at its soft wheat quality laboratory in Wooster, Ohio. The refrigerated centrifuge must be able to spin four 96-well plates at once down to 4 degrees Celsius and be the same make and model as existing non-refrigerated centrifuges for interchangeable rotors. The non-refrigerated centrifuges should have adjustable spin rates from 200 to 14,000 rpm, accommodate various tube and plate sizes, and also match the make and model of current centrifuges. Award will be made to the lowest priced technically acceptable bid. The point of contact for technical questions is provided.

Statement of Work (SOW)

Project: Procure one refrigerated and two non-refrigerated benchtop centrifuges at USDA-ARS soft wheat quality Lab in Wooster, OH

GENERAL INFORMATION

1.0 Scope of Work: This project is to prevent an accident that may occur from potential endanger equipment during work and is to provide reliable pre-harvest sprouting data and gene expression in wheat at USDA-ARS soft heat quality Lab in Wooster, OH.

2.0 Background: We purchased three benchtop centrifuges at the same time in 2006 to evaluate soft wheat quality. One of the centrifuges has broken at the inside base, where rotor is located, and the new one has been replaced in 2021. Rubber debris were seen at the bottom of the two old centrifuges just like the one broken. The replacement of two old centrifuges with new ones will eliminate potential hazard in our Lab.

A refrigerated benchtop centrifuge is essential for generating pre-harvest sprouting data and gene expression in wheat. None of the current tabletop centrifuges are refrigerated and capable of spinning 96-well plates. It is preferred that the same make and model as other current non-refrigerated centrifuges is purchased so that they may use rotors interchangeably, thus reducing overall costs to the lab of buying multiple sets of rotors for each centrifuge.

CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS

3.0 Technical Requirements/Tasks: Provide and deliver 1 tabletop refrigerated and 2 tabletop non-refrigerated centrifuges with the following characteristics:

Refrigerated:

• Capacity to spin down up to four 96 well plates at a time.

• Refrigeration down to 4 degrees Celsius.

• Same make and model as current non-refrigerated tabletop centrifuges to allow for cost savings via interchangeable rotors.

Non-refrigerated:

• Adjustable Spin rate from 200 to 14000 rpm.

• Accommodate sample tubes from 0.2 mL to 250 mL as well as plates.

• Have round swing-bucket rotors and 4 buckets for 2x50mL conical tubes.

• Adapters for 7 round-bottom tubes 3-15 mL and 100 mL rectangular bucket in the Rotor.

• Benchtop devices with 120V/60Hz power supply.

• Same make and model as current tabletop centrifuges to allow for cost savings via interchangeable rotors.
