Statement of Work / Specification Document Bead Beating Grinder and Lysis System

GENERAL INFORMATION

1.0 Scope of Work: Acquire a Bead Beating Grinder and Lysis System to break down insects and bacteria to enable extraction of nucleic acids, lipids, and proteins for research at the USDA-ARS Biological Control of Insects Research Laboratory (BCIRL) in Columbia, MO.

2.0 Background: Researchers within the BCIRL will use this instrument to facilitate and expedite the quantity and quality of nucleic acid, lipid, and protein extractions from insect samples. This will greatly improve the quality and quantity of data we can generate from samples.

CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS

3.0 Technical Requirements/Tasks: Bead Beating Grinder and Lysis System shall meet or exceed the following technical specifications:

• Maximum load of 24, 2 mL samples.

• Touch Screen Interface / 151.5 mm x 85.5 mm screen size.

• 120 VAC / 60 H power requirement.

• Programmable settings for speed, adapter, time, lysing matrix, sample quantity, sample units, cycle, pause time and display readout.

• Speed range of 4 to 10 m/sec in 0.5 m/sec increments.

• Standard QuickPrep-3, 24 x 2 mL adaptor and additional adaptors available to purchase later.

• Required software to operate instrument must be included.

• 12 programmable assay locations.

• 70 dB maximum sound level.

• Must weigh less than 70 lbs.

• Must fit into a space 2’ X 2’ X 2’.

5.0 Deliverables / Schedule: The Bead Beating Grinder should be shipped within 30 days after the contract is awarded to 1503 S. Providence, Research Park Columbia, MO 65203. Any deviation from that schedule due to unforeseen issues should be communicated to the buyer immediately.
