7. Describe the requirement. Please note that the requirement is the minimum acceptable specification or capability, and is not necessarily the best in the industry. Please note whether any additional follow-on work is anticipated in response to the current proposed effort.

The USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in Peoria, Illinois has a need to replace an existing Molecular Devices SpectraMax M5 Multi-Mode Microplate Reader that was purchased in 2007.

A Molecular Devices SpectraMax iD5 Multi-Mode Microplate Reader with injectors is required to meet the minimum technical requirements for anticipated use and to have the ability to utilize SoftMax Pro Software to compare historical data from the SpectraMax M5 Multi-Mode Microplate Reader with experiments using the SpectraMax iD5 Multi-Mode Microplate Reader. Vendor will accept SpectraMax M5 Multi-Mode Microplate reader for fair market trade-in value and apply this as a discount to the final price of the SpectraMax iD5 Multi-Mode Microplate reader.

8. List the proposed vendor and contact information.

Any vendor that can provide the required brand-name item.

9. Describe why the proposed product is the only product from which the requirement can be obtained.

Multi-Mode Microplate Readers meeting the minimum technical requirements in Section #7 must also be compatible with SoftMax Pro software so that we are able to compare data obtained on a SpectraMax M5 Multi- Mode Microplate Reader that was purchased in 2007. SoftMax Pro is a data acquisition and analysis software that is only used on Molecular Devices microplate readers and no other manufacturer will be able to meet this requirement of being able to compare historical data with new data using the same software. Molecular Devices sell several different plate readers, but the SpectraMax iD5 Multi-Mode Microplate Reader with injectors is the only one that can achieve the minimum technical requirements for anticipated use with absorbance, fluorescence, and luminescence.
