About this file
This document outlines specifications for a microbial chemostat procurement opportunity. The Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service Field Research Implementation and Information Delivery Midwest Area is seeking a parallel four-vessel bacterial bioreactor system not exceeding 750mm x 520mm x 960mm in size, with each 0.75L vessel equipped for temperature control, rotation speeds of two impellers, and up to 13 ports for sensors. The system must include a touchscreen controller to display all bioreactors, digital instrumentation controlling up to 24 parameters per vessel and up to four pumps per vessel, and allow for aseptic sampling and operation without laminar flow or dead volume. Installation and onsite training must be completed within 180 days of award under solicitation number 12505B23Q0229, with all associated costs included in the quote. Delivery is required to the USDA facility at 1920 Dayton Avenue, Building 24 in Ames, Iowa within 150 days of award.

Specifications Project: Procurement of Microbial chemostat
GENERAL INFORMATION
1.0 Scope of Work: Our current research requires the ability to simulate gut conditions in vitro to study bacterial population from animal intestines. A chemostat (bioreactor) will allow us it establish cultures of mixed bacterial population to test hypotheses.
2.0 Background: Many years ago, a chemostat was used in our lab to culture mixed bacterial populations. The system no longer functions and requires replacement.
Market research was completed by a team of USDA scientists to identify the capabilities and to identify units that are highly dynamic and could run multiple cultures in parallel.
