About this file
This specification document outlines requirements for an oxidation stability analysis machine. The Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service Midwest Area seeks to purchase an instrument that can measure the oxidative stability index of fats, oils, and biodiesel according to AOCS official method Cd 12b-92 and ISO 6886. The machine must have a minimum of eight sample measuring locations, temperature range of 50-220 degrees Celsius adjustable in 1 degree increments, built-in air pump with 1-25 liter per hour flow range, and conductivity measuring vessels capable of holding 50ml of water and covering an aeration tube by at least 5cm. The instrument is to interface with a computer via USB to monitor conductivity of each probe, automatically or manually calculate endpoints, and save data. Delivery is required no later than 120 days after receipt of a purchase order.

SPCECIFICATION DOCUMENT
Project Oxidation Stability Analysis Machine
General Information
1.0 Scope of Work
Purchase an oxidation stability analysis machine for the purpose of determining the “Oil Stability Index” of food fats and oils for ARS research according to AOCS official method Cd 12b-92. Since the instrument may occasionally also be used for biodiesel analysis by the BOR research unit, the biodiesel method sample programming was also requested as an add-on.
2.0 Background
An instrument is required for the purpose of determining the Oil Stability Index of fats and oils according to the AOCS official method Cd 12b-92. The requirements and specifications of the instrument are laid out by the method and are copied below.
3.0 Technical Requirements / Tasks
• instrument that can measure the oxidative stability index of fats and oils and biodiesel according to AOCS official method Cd 1b-92, ISO 6886.
• A minimum of eight sample measuring locations
• Temperature range of 50°C to 220°C that can be set in steps of 1°C increments.
• Temperature calibration/correction capability, and maximum deviation of < 0.3°C from the set temperature.
• Built-in air pump with a flow range of 1-25 L/h
• Conductivity measuring vessels with a conductivity measuring capability of 0-400 µs/cm.
• Conductivity measurement vessels capable of holding 50 ml of water, and capable of covering the tip of an aeration tube by 5 cm or more.
• Must interface with a computer through a USB or similar port interface.
• Software that when operated through a computer, should monitor the conductivity of each probe and be able to automatically calculate the end point, or be configured to manually calculate the endpoint, and save data.
