About this file

This is a Statement of Work for a 3D scanning system procurement supporting the Larkworks MakerSpace at Langley Research Center (LaRC) in Hampton, Virginia. The procurement addresses the need for rapid and accurate dimensional verification of thousands of 3D-printed components produced annually by hundreds of users. The system must be NIST-traceable with accuracy of ±0.01 mm and capable of automated full-geometry capture, CAD comparison, mesh repair, and export to common file formats without requiring fiducial markers, recurring licensing fees, or extensive user training.

The vendor shall provide a turnkey system consisting of eight line items including a 3D Scanner CMM Measurement Head (VL-870), a 3D Scanner CMM 500mm Stage with XY Stitching (VL-850), a Measurement Controller (VL-800), accessories including a light blocking curtain and calibration board, STP export software, a multilingual accessory kit, and a support package. Key requirements include no recurring hardware maintenance or software licensing costs, highly automated scanning with point cloud stitching and automated mesh hole repair, quick result display, intuitive user-friendly software enabling operation training in under one hour, and data export capability in STL, 3MF, OBJ, DXF, and STP formats. The system must automatically align scanned point clouds with imported CAD models for direct comparison and analysis. The period of performance is 3-4 business days after receipt of order (ARO).

STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Objective/Requirements

This procurement supports the Larkworks MakerSpace at Langley Research Center, where hundreds of users annually produce thousands of 3D-printed components requiring rapid and accurate dimensional verification. Due to susceptibility to warping and dimensional variation caused by material, process, and environmental factors, the MakerSpace requires a turnkey, NIST-traceable (±0.01 mm) 3D scanning solution capable of automated full-geometry capture, CAD comparison, mesh repair, and export to common file formats, without reliance on fiducial markers, recurring licensing fees, or extensive user training.

The vendor shall provide the following:

• A turn-key system that we can operate indefinitely, with no recurring costs for hardware maintenance or software licensing.

• A system capable of highly automated, full-shape 3D scanning, which would include automated point cloud stitching, automated mesh analysis for holes, and automated mesh hole repair

• No need to attach fiducial markers or reflectors to parts being scanned

• A system that will display results quickly after a scan is complete

• A system with software that is easy to learn & use, and clearly guides new users

• through the process of scanning and analyzing parts

• A system with NIST-traceable accuracy of +/- 0.01 mm

• Ability to export data in popular formats that include STL, 3MF, OBJ, DXF, and STP

• Ability to automatically align scanned point clouds with imported CAD models for direct comparison and analysis.

• Integrated software and hardware that a typical new user can be trained to operate in less than 1 hour.
