About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA Glenn Research Center's requirements for a portable electromagnetic interference (EMI) shield enclosure for shielding effectiveness testing. The enclosure must be a 6-sided, collapsible radio frequency structure with specific dimensional requirements: fully deployed height between 6-8 feet, floor dimensions between 5-7 feet square, and storable configuration no larger than 6x6x3 feet. Key technical specifications include 90 dB shielding effectiveness from 30 MHz to 18 GHz, total weight under 200 lbs, a rigid outer frame with removable casters, a personnel door, a 24x24 inch test panel aperture, and a 6x6 inch removable bulkhead feedthrough plate with an N-type connector.

Deployment and operational requirements mandate that the enclosure can be deployed and stored by no more than two people without powered tools, with deployment and storage times under 3 hours. The enclosure must withstand 10,000 deployment/storage cycles and have documented prior use in NASA electromagnetic interference test facilities. Additional features include a waveguide sleeve for cable penetrations, an open side for mounting to an existing chamber, provisions for a portable interior light, and a low impedance RF ground connection. The SOW is associated with NASA's solicitation number 80NSSC25906795Q for procuring this specialized EMI shield enclosure.

Statement of Work for Portable EMI Shield Enclosure

NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) at Lewis Field needs a portable enclosure for electromagnetic shielding effectiveness testing.

The enclosure shall meet the following specifications:

1. The enclosure shall be a portable radio frequency enclosure with 6 sides.

2. Dimensions:

a. The fully deployed internal height shall be at least 6 feet, but no greater than 8 feet.

b. The fully deployed floor dimensions shall be at least 5 feet x 5 feet, but no greater than 7 feet by 7 feet.

c. The enclosure shall be collapsible for storage to a configuration with dimensions no greater than 6 feet x 6 feet x 3 feet.

3. The fully deployed enclosure, with apertures filled, doors closed, shall have shielding effectiveness of 90 dB or greater over frequencies from 30 MHz to 18 GHz.

4. The enclosure shall provide a means for a low impedance radio frequency bond to the installation facility ground.

5. The enclosure shall maintain the shielding effectiveness performance for at least 10000 deployment/storage cycles.

6. The enclosure total mass shall be less than 200 lbs. fully deployed.

7. The enclosure shall have a rigid outer frame for support of the enclosure.

8. The enclosure frame shall have removable casters on each lower (floor) corner of the frame.

9. The enclosure shall include one personnel door with height of at least 6 feet and width at least 3 feet.

10. The enclosure shall include a waveguide sleeve for cable penetrations that reduces radio frequency transmission.

11. The rigid frame of the enclosure shall have one open side for enclosure mounting to existing chamber.

12. Enclosure shall have a 24" x 24” test panel aperture with a metallic frame to mount and electrically bond test panels.

a. The offeror shall provide a removable panel to fill the aperture.

13. The enclosure shall have a removable bulkhead feedthrough plate of dimensions 6” x 6” or greater for RF connector feedthroughs.

14. The removable bulkhead plate shall have one N-type connector feedthrough.

15. The bulkhead plate shall not be on the same side of the enclosure as the test panel aperture.

16. The enclosure shall have a means to temporarily install a portable light in the interior of the deployed enclosure.

17. Storage/Deployment Requirements

a. The enclosure shall require no more than 2 persons to deploy the enclosure from stored configuration.

b. No powered tools or machines shall be required for deployment of the enclosure.

c. The enclosure shall require no more than 2 persons to store the enclosure from the deployed configuration.

d. No powered tools or machines shall be required to store the enclosure.

e. The time required to deploy the enclosure from stored configuration shall be less than 3 hours.

f. The time required to collapse the enclosure to its stored configuration shall be less than 3 hours.

18. The enclosure shall have documented use in NASA electromagnetic interference test facilities.
