About this file
This statement of work outlines requirements for the design, manufacturing, and delivery of a custom heliostat mirror assembly for NASA. The contractor will design a monolithic or segmented mirror array meeting specifications, with a mass limit of 190kg and minimum reflectance of 88% from 400-1200nm. The mirror must withstand Houston weather conditions for 120 hours per year over five years. The contractor will also design a support structure interfacing the mirror assembly to the heliostat, conduct structural analysis, and manufacture both the mirror and support structure. The assembled mirror is to be shipped to NASA's Johnson Space Center by July 5, 2024 for on-site installation and integration. NASA intends to sole source award this contract to Composite Mirror Applications by March 19, 2024 to meet its requirements for a custom heliostat mirror for the CaRD program.

NOTE: this can be achieved through an assembly of mirror segments if the assembly meets the requirements listed below.
The integrated mirror assembly shall not exceed 190 kg, including any support or interfacing structure to the heliostat.
If segmented, the segments will be parallel within 0.05 degrees (measured to the segment diagonal) when integrated into the heliostat.
The mirror reflectance will be greater than 88% averaged over 400 1200 nm, 45 degree AOI
(protected aluminum). Protected silver (98%) is the preferred coating if environmental survivability can be assured.
The mirror shall be capable of operating at ambient, outdoor Houston conditions throughout the year (excluding precipitation). Total outdoor use time is estimated at 120 hours per year for a five-year period.
Design a monolithic or segmented mirror array that meets the above-listed requirements, or request in their proposal that NASA provide drawings of the mirror(s) for manufacturing.
If the contractor designs the mirror(s), the contractor shall provide drawings of the mirror segments and assembly for review by NASA.
Design a support and interfacing structure for the mirror assembly to the COTS heliostat using the heliostat interface drawings provided by NASA, or request in their proposal that NASA design this structure and provide the necessary interface drawings.
If the contractor designs this structure, the contractor shall provide drawings of the structure for review by NASA.

Perform structural analysis on the mirror and support structure assembly to verify it will meet the above-listed requirements under its own weight load when mounted to the heliostat, or request that NASA perform this analysis.
If NASA performs this analysis, the contractor shall provide full-detail CAD geometry of the mirror assembly.
Manufacture the mirror(s).
Manufacture the mirror support structure, or request that NASA source the structure manufacturing separately if the contractor requests NASA design this structure.
Package and ship the unassembled mirror to JSC for assembly and installation onto the heliostat at the EP Energy Systems Test Area.
Provide on-site assembly support or detailed assembly procedures and a technical point of contact for final mirror assembly and heliostat integration at JSC.
