SECTION 08342

SLIDING ICU/CCU DOORS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 DESCRIPTION

Complete custom designed sliding doors for access to ICU (MICU, CCU, and Step Down) cubicle enclosures. Doors include glazed, manually operated, sliding panels and glazed sidelight panels.

1.2 RELATED WORK

A. Wood blocking at head and side jambs for fastening door frame: Refer to Section 06100, ROUGH CARPENTRY.

B. Color of factory finish: Section 09050, INTERIOR/EXTERIOR FINISHES, MATERIALS, AND FINISH SCHEDULES

1.3 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A. Manually Operating 2 Panel Assembly: 1 panel of a 2 panel door assembly slide in the same direction to provide clear opening width of approximately 1/2 of total door assembly width.

1. Hinge both panels of each door assembly to provide swing (breakaway) operation for emergency exit.

2. Custom sized door assembly of width and height indicated.

3. Frame head section of door assembly shall be type that requires a separate structural support system unless otherwise indicated.

4. Design track and sliding panel carrier system to reduce noise caused by sliding panels.

5. No floor track within opening when sliding panels are fully opened.

6. Make width of glazed openings of panels in each separate door assembly approximately the same except as follows:

a. Smoke and sound control sweeps and seals: Types that will limit passage of smoke and sound.

1.4 MANUFACTURER'S QUALIFICATIONS

Not less than 5 years experience in the actual production of specified products.

1.5 INSTALLER'S QUALIFICATIONS

A. Firm experienced in installation of systems similar in complexity to those required for this Project, plus the following.

1. Acceptable to or licensed by manufacturer.

2. Not less than 3 years experience with systems.

3. Successfully completed not less than 5 comparable scale projects using this system.

1.6 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit in accordance with Section 01340, SAMPLES AND SHOP DRAWINGS.

B. Shop Drawings:

1. Indicate dimensions, description of materials and finishes, general construction, specific modifications, component connections, anchorage methods, and installation procedures, plus the following specific requirements.

a. Indicate in detail the construction of parts, including metal and glass types and thicknesses, and provisions for hardware.

C. Samples:

If requested by Resident Engineer.

D. Color Samples:

1. 2 sets of samples for color verification for the following.

a. Exposed aluminum surfaces.

E. Manufacturer's Literature and Data (Mark Literature to show items being furnished):

1. Detailed specification of construction and fabrication.

2. Manufacturer's installation instructions.

F. Quality Control Submittals:

1. Statement of qualifications.

2. Design data.

3. Test reports.

4. Professional certifications.

5. Field Quality Control Submittals.

6. Manufacturer's field reports.

1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Storage and Protection: Comply with manufacturer's recommendations.

1. Store doors in upright position off ground or floor.

2. Protect from damage by the elements and construction processes.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

Extruded Aluminum Sections: 6063-T5 alloy and temper or equivalent.

Wall thickness of major extrusions shall not be less than 79 mm (0.125 inch).

2.2 COMPONENTS

A. Frame Head Section: Full length extruded aluminum member enclosing track/carrier system.

1. Approximate size of frame head section for door assembly having 2 tracks for supporting sliding panels:

a. Door assembly type requiring a separate structural support system: 178 mm (7 inch) wide by 64 to 89 mm (2-1/2 to 3-1/2 inches) deep.

B. Frame Jamb Section: Extruded aluminum tube, plate, or built-up section of extruded aluminum shapes.

1. Approximate size of frame jamb section for door assembly having 2 tracks for supporting sliding panels: 152 to 178 mm (6 to 7 inches) wide by 44 mm (1-3/4 inch) deep.

2. Provide stops for sliding panels.

C. Sliding Panels and Sidelight Panels:

1. Stiles and rails: Door manufacturer's standard widths by 44 mm (1-

3/4 inch) thick aluminum extrusions. Include glazing stops.

2. Carriers/trolleys with ball bearing rollers at top of sliding panels.

3. Stabilize bottom of sliding panels by a roller guide (side guide) that works within bottom of sidelight panel or other sliding panel.

a. Surface mounted floor track or guides in door opening when sliding panels are in full open position are not acceptable.

4. Horizontal division muntin in each sliding panel and sidelight panel centered at approximately 1041 mm (41 inch) above floor.

5. Pulls: Manufacturer's standard complying with the following:

a. Standard recessed pull on stile face of lead sliding panel.

b. Provide manual positive latch.

2.3 ACCESSORIES

A. Smoke and Sound Control Sweeps and Seals: Provide the following types unless other types are required to qualify as a type that will limit the passage of smoke.

1. Nylon brush type bottom sweep for mounting under panel. Surface mounting type is not acceptable.

2. Pile seal for mounting on panel stile adjacent to frame jamb.

3. Pile or vinyl seal strips for mounting on stiles between panels.

4. Nylon brush type seal for mounting within head section. Surface mounting type is not acceptable.

B. Emergency Exiting Sign: Door manufacturer's standard adhesive backed, vinyl sign with 25 mm (1 inch) high, upper case, white letters on a red background.

1. Sign message: "In emergency push to open" if swing panel is outswinging or "In emergency pull to open" if swing panel is inswinging.

C. Sealant: Provide under this Section to comply with requirements specified under Section 07920, SEALANTS AND CAULKING.

D. Glass: Provide under this Section to comply with requirements specified under Section 08810, GLASS AND GLAZING.

2.4 FABRICATION

A. Shop prepare frames for assembly on Project Site. Provide secure connection between head and jamb members.

B. Shop assemble sliding panels and sidelight panels.

C. Glass Installation: May be shop or Project Site installed.

D. Accessory Installation: May be shop or field installed.

1. Install bottom sweep under sliding panels.

2. Install bottom sweep under sidelight panel if joint between panel and floor is not otherwise sealed.

3. Install seals at stiles between panels and at stiles between panels and frame jambs.

4. Install seals at head within head section.

5. Install emergency exiting sign on horizontal muntin of swing

(breakaway) panels intended to provide emergency exiting from a room. Install on room side of panels (push side if panels are outswinging and pull side if panels are inswinging).

E. Shop/factory finish of exposed aluminum surfaces: Clear anodized.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Verification of Conditions: Examine areas and conditions under which

Work is to be performed and identify conditions detrimental to proper or timely completion.

1. Verify opening is located, sized, and constructed properly to allow installation of door assembly

2. Verify structural support system is located, sized, and constructed properly to allow installation of a door assembly requiring a separate structural support system.

3. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 INSTALLATION

A. Comply with door manufacturer's recommendations.

B. Install frame head and jamb sections plumb, square, and true.

C. Securely anchor frame head section of doors requiring a separate structural support system.

D. Anchor frame jamb section to adjacent wall construction or separate structural support system columns.

E. Securely fasten sidelight panel in place.

F. Hang sliding panels on track.

G. Install glass and accessories if not shop installed.

3.3 ADJUSTING

A. Adjust sliding and swinging (breakaway) panels for smooth operation.

B. Remove damaged material that cannot be repaired and install new.
