8B Module Fabrication Notes Top Labels The Contractor shall develop and utilize top labels that must be serialized with a Code 128 barcode containing the part number, followed by a space, then a serial number starting at 2001 incrementing by 1 using reference document 11. For example, “EHQ10819 2001”. The readable text shall appear below it. Labels shall be affixed as shown in document ref. 7.

Serial numbers shall be used in ascending order. Any label not affixed in accordance with the requirements shall be destroyed, and the next label in sequence shall be used.

8B Base Assembly Note that where “IC Socket” is referenced the socket is MillMax part number 110‐41‐628‐41‐001000

• The contractor shall align the individual MillMax pins using a jig before soldering. An IC socket with round milled pins was used for the prototype: Pins are inserted into the IC socket, then the bottom of the base PWB held parallel to the socket with all pin shoulders flush with the bottom of the base PWB. After soldering, flush cut the excess solder‐side of the pin at the top of the board.

• The contractor shall not align the MillMax sockets by inserting the board‐to‐board header into the MillMax sockets to act as a jig or the heat will deform the springs. For the prototype a simple jig was made by inserting the MillMax sockets into IC socket pins then flipping the base PWB upside down, holding it parallel to the socket with all MillMax socket shoulders flush with the top of the board then soldered.

8B Board Assembly

• The contractor shall carefully align parts list item reference 12 (4 pin right angle board‐to‐board header) before soldering. Contrary to typical practice, the straight pins are soldered into the board. A jig is not necessary if the header can be held flush to the board and exactly parallel with the silk screen. Note that the part in reference 12 is fully gold plated.

• The contractor shall prepare LED leads before installation by bending at a right angle so that the LED base area falls completely within the white silk screen markings, the bottom of the LED just touches the top of the board and the LED leads are parallel to the top of the board. When in doubt, recess it a little more.

The case will not assemble properly if the raised LED base sticks out past the end of the board.

8BP Case Note

The jack screws have already been procured. NAVSEA will install the jack screws at final assembly after module test.

Reference Documents The Contractor shall reference these documents in the performance of this specification.

(2) For items that are serialized within the original part, lot, or batch number, the linking together of the unique identifier data elements in order of the issuing agency code; enterprise identifier; original part, lot, or batch number;

and serial number within the original part, lot, or batch number.

Data Matrix means a two-dimensional matrix symbology, which is made up of square or, in some cases, round modules arranged within a perimeter finder pattern and uses the Error Checking and Correction 200 (ECC200) specification found within International Standards Organization (ISO)/International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 16022.

Data qualifier means a specified character (or string of characters) that immediately precedes a data field that defines the general category or intended use of the data that follows.

DoD item unique identification means a system of marking items delivered to DoD with unique item identifiers that have machine-readable data elements to distinguish an item from all other like and unlike items. For items that are serialized within the enterprise identifier, the unique item identifier shall include the data elements of the enterprise identifier and a unique serial number. For items that are serialized within the part, lot, or batch number within the enterprise identifier, the unique item identifier shall include the data elements of the enterprise identifier; the original part, lot, or batch number; and the serial number.

Enterprise means the entity (e.g., a manufacturer or vendor) responsible for assigning unique item identifiers to items.
