OVERVIEW & BACKGROUND
The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) is located in the Berkeley hills, within the city limits of Berkeley and Oakland in Alameda County. The land is owned by the Regents of the University of California, and has numerous buildings and smaller structures, including mobile trailers. See the attached Site Maps:
· LBNL Site Map
· LBNL Fire Hydrant Map Most larger buildings are of noncombustible construction. Smaller and temporary buildings are of both noncombustible and combustible construction. Almost all buildings are equipped with automatic sprinklers or equipped with automatic fixed fire-suppression systems. Upon actuation of any suppression system, a signal will be sent to the onsite Fire Department via the site wide fire alarm system. Almost all buildings are protected by fire alarm systems that consist of heat detectors and/or smoke detectors, manual pull stations, fire alarm bells, and visual warning devices. These systems will warn building occupants automatically as well as summon the Lab’s subcontracted Fire Department in the event of a fire. LBNL has approximately 4,500 full-time and part-time employees. The Subcontractor shall provide fire suppression, hazardous materials response, emergency medical response, technical rescue, fire apparatus and assigned fire prevention services as further described below.
