Resource Protection Measures: Fowlers Tree Removal Project

ROADS, SPURS AND INFRASTRUCTURE

1) Protect roads from heavy equipment and tree felling by using plywood, cribbing or heavy mats to protect black top. Amor (with tires or other cribbing) at road shoulders to prevent blacktop chipping.

2) When feasible, trees will be felled away from recreation site infrastructures (picnic tables, campfire rings, restrooms, signs, etc.). Infrastructure will be temporarily moved (by contractor) if necessary to avoid damage from falling trees and/or debris removal. The contractor will place back any moved infrastructure post operations.

ARCHEOLOGIC SITE

1) Trees within historic properties located within or adjacent to recreation areas, including developed campgrounds and day-use areas, maybe be felled within historic property boundaries and removed with a rubber-tired loader or crane/self-loader parked on existing roads and/or campsite spurs. No skidding or tracked equipment will be allowed within historic property boundaries. A qualified archaeologist will be notified prior to on-site hazard tree removal and will determine whether monitoring during the activity is necessary

BOTANY

1) Prior to moving Off-Road Equipment onto the Sale Area, the contractor shall identify the location of the equipment's most recent operation. The contractor shall not move any Off-Road Equipment that last operated in an area infested with one or more invasive species of concern onto project area without having cleaned such equipment of seeds, soil, vegetative matter, and other debris that could contain or hold seeds, and having notified Forest Service. If the location of prior operation cannot be identified, then the contractor shall assume that the location is infested with invasive species of concern.

2) Prior to moving any Off-Road Equipment subject to the cleaning requirements set forth above, the contractor shall advise the Forest Service of its cleaning measures and make the equipment available for inspection. Forest Service shall have 2 days, excluding weekends and Federal holidays, to inspect equipment after it has been made available. After satisfactory inspection or after such 2 day period, the contractor may move the equipment as planned. Equipment shall be considered clean when a visual inspection does not disclose seeds, soil, vegetative matter, and other debris that could contain or hold seeds. The contractor shall not be required to disassemble equipment unless so directed by the Forest Service after inspection.
