SECTION 01 11 00

SUMMARY OF WORK

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 REQUIREMENT

A. The Dolores Water Conservancy District (DWCD) provides seasonal irrigation under pressure in southwest Colorado for the Dolores Project, owned by the Bureau of

Reclamation and operated by DWCD. Four pumping plants are being upgraded: Pleasant

View Pumping Plant (PP), Ruin Canyon PP, Dove Creek PP, and Cahone PP. The objective of this upgrade project, FY15 P1 Bulk Equipment, is to replace nine existing

Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) with modern VFDs, to be operated at 480 VAC. Two of the plants currently use medium voltage VFDs and motors, and the other two plants were previously converted to 480V with new drives and motors. The current 480V drives are old technology and significantly aged. The new equipment will be fully compliant with the harmonic distortion requirements of IEEE 519 using 18 pulse VFD technologies, backed up with alternate fixed speed motor controls using soft start controls installed within the same enclosures as the VFD. To support the change in pump operating voltage to 480 VAC at Pleasant View PP and Ruin Canyon PP, the equipment at each plant will include a new section of 5kV metal-enclosed switchgear, a new 750kVA, 2400 VAC to

480 VAC station service transformer, as well as new a 480VAC distribution switchboard.

New 480 VAC inverter duty motors will replace the 4 variable speed 2400 VAC motors on the existing pumps at those two plants and provide one spare. These new motors will be a hollow shaft design. Cahone PP and Dove Creek PP will simply have the existing

480V VFDs replaced.

B. The intent of this contract is to procure all the major long lead equipment for these upgrades. Supply the equipment required for the FY15 P1 Bulk Equipment in accordance with contract provisions and clauses, these specifications, and drawings listed in Division

52, Table 52 00 00A, “List of Drawings”.

C. The principal components of work consisting of supplying nine (9) low voltage variable frequency drives, two (2) distribution transformers, two (2) sections of medium-voltage metal-enclosed switchgear, five (5) 250Hp induction motors, low voltage motor controls and two (2) 480V distribution switchboards.
