About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for Pest Control Services at the New York State Fair, solicited by the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets. The Q&A provides insights into the current pest control needs and expectations for the fairgrounds, covering service requirements, pest types, communication protocols, and access procedures. The document reveals that mice and bees have been the most reported pests over the past twelve months, and the current pest control service covers a range of pests including rats, mice, cockroaches, ants, silverfish, bats, bees, and wasps.

The Q&A indicates that the current pest control vendor has shown improvement in pest-related activity, with service records maintained in a maintenance office binder and communication handled through phone calls. The fairgrounds will provide a key for technicians to access buildings, and potentially staff assistance during a transition period. The document suggests a need for a communication process regarding rodent exclusion areas, though the specific exclusion work is not explicitly assigned to either in-house staff or the pest vendor. The potential consequences of improper pest management include impacts on customers and staff, though any specific revenue loss remains unknown.

Pest Control Services – NYS Fair (SF250112)

Q&A

1. What requirements do you have for your pest control provider (service frequency, time of servicing, documentation, communication, call back services, etc.)?

Colder months (November-April) there are more issues with mice. Service provider communicates with staff with all physical service records put into a binder located in maintenance office. Verbal communication is done through phone calls. Call back services are just that.

2. What protocol do you follow if pest activity is reported on the grounds?

A call is made to the service provider

3. Over the last twelve months, which pests have been reported the most?

Mice, bees.

4. What are the potential consequences for you if rodents and other pests are not being handled properly?

Customers and staff are affected.

5. What pests are currently covered with your current service?

Pests Include (but not limited to): Rats, mice, cockroaches, ants, silverfish, bats, bees and wasps

6. During the tour, we were told there were some buildings we would not be treating. Which buildings/areas of the grounds will be part of the service program?

Please refer to Fact Sheet.

7. During the tour, we noticed multiple opportunities for rodent exclusion work across the grounds. Is this something you expect to be completed in house or by your pest vendor?

No, but there needs to be a process for communicating when the exclusion area is observed.

8. Between the time your current pest vendor started services to now, have you seen improvement with pest related activity?

Yes

9. Has there been any loss in revenue due to rodents and other pests?

Unknown

10. During services, will our technicians have someone walking around the grounds to let them into buildings or will they have a key to access buildings themselves?

There will be a key provided but if staffing allows, we can provide staff for a transition period to acclimate.
