PERFORMANCE WORK STATEMENT
Michigan Engineering Services
1.0 DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES/INTRODUCTION:
Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division requires a contractor to develop a code that can extract information from the Leading Edge Architecture for Prototyping Systems (LEAPS) database and develop an input deck for the Energy Finite Element Analysis (EFEA) solver.
2.0 BACKGROUND:
Creating Finite Elements models from a given Naval design information, especially in fully 3D, could be tedious and labor-intensive. To support rapid assessments of future concept design, a streamline of converting the design data to numerical model could greatly reduce labor hours and human-errors. This task aims to develop a code that can extract LEAPS information to generate a 3D Energy Finite Element Analysis (EFEA) model directly.
3.0 OBJECTIVE:
3.1 Develop a LEAPS – EFEA Converter: Contractor shall develop a code that can extract information from the LEAPS database and generate a 3D Energy Finite Element Analysis (EFEA) model. Furthermore, contractor shall demonstrate the code in rapidly creating an EFEA model from a simple concept submarine design. NSWC- Carderock will provide the following information in the LEAPS for the concept design:
3.1.1 Plating of pressure hull and non-pressure hull, including material properties, and thickness
3.1.2 Circumferential frames at longitudinal locations, including their material properties, and cross sectional properties
3.1.3 Concentrated masses distributed equally over the range that the weight is distributed with a center location at the center of gravity
3.1.4 Bulkheads modeled as thick plates (with no stiffeners), including material properties and thicknesses
3.1.5 No sail or any other appendages will be considered
3.2 Contractor shall provide a user’s guide describing how to operate the code developed in 3.1.
3.3 Contractor shall provide the EFEA input deck from a concept submarine.
3.4 Contractor shall provide a PowerPoint presentation documenting all findings with recommendations for future development.
4.0 DELIVERABLES
4.1 The contractor shall provide deliverables as described in the PWS
4.2 Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL). The Contractor shall deliver the CDRL in accordance with each CDRL’s requirements as specified on the DD Form 1423.
Format and delivery schedule for deliverables is outlined in the CDRLs.
