RFQ No. P15PS01200 Attachment No. 02
Scope of Work Statement Point Reyes National Seashore
Point Reyes Headlands
Gulf of the Farallones/Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries Exhibit
Models
Background
The Lighthouse Visitor Center and Point Reyes Headlands are visited by over 500,000 visitors who come to the Seashore annually. The visitor center is a small space, approximately 370 sf, with educational panels and exhibits on the natural and human history of the Headlands. This proposed additional interpretive space of approximately 405 sf will provide more in-depth information on the two National Marine Sanctuaries and their relationship to the Seashore. The entrance and exit to this space will be from within the existing Point Reyes LH visitor space.
The Gulf of the Farallones and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries (NOAA) are cooperating partners with the National Park Service (NPS) and have jurisdiction over much of the water that surrounds Point Reyes. The Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary was designated in January 1981 and encompasses 1,255 square miles of diverse habitat for marine mammals and seabirds. Along with the National Seashore and other state, county, city, and private agencies and organizations, the area was designated an International Biosphere Reserve in 1988.
Adjacent to the northern boundaries of the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary is the Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary, which was designated in May 1989. It encompasses 529 square miles of ocean waters off the California coast. The sanctuaries and the park share many interpretive goals and ocean messages for the public.
Project Description
The National Park Service, Point Reyes National Seashore located in Marin County, California has a requirement for fabrication and delivery of ocean life models that are realistic in general appearance.
A. Work Included
The selected vendor will coordinate all details about models with the project manager and NPS Contracting Officer’s Representative or designee. The interpretive concept plan (Attachment No. 03) provides a rough sketch/idea of placement and size of models to be created. Consultation with project manager is required to determine size, position, and placement within exhibit space.
Design and Install Marine Life Models
The contractor must reference concept plan for intended size, use and approximate placement of models.
Provide costs for the following ocean life models that are durable, cleanable and realistically painted (as true to biological photos provided by NPS and NOAA), of various sea life.
Line Item 0010:
• 1- California Sea Lion, female (approximately3-4 feet in length), as referenced in the
“Interpretative Concept Design,” (pages 3&7).
• 4-Bull kelp (approximately 4 feet in length), as referenced in the “Interpretative Concept Design,” (page 3).
• 1-Dall’s porpoise (approximately 3-4 feet in length), as referenced in the “Interpretative Concept Design,” (page 7).
• 1-White shark (approximately 10 feet in length), as referenced in the “Interpretative Concept Design,” (page 7).
Option Line Items 1-3 (Line 0020):
• Option Line Item 1: Ocean sunfish (Mola mola) two each, approximately 26” from top of dorsal fin to bottom of ventral fin.
• Option Line Item 2: Sooty Shearwater (approximately wingspan 2 feet).
• Option Line Item 3: Provide the following subtidal/bank sea creature models (based on species found on Cordell Bank and/or Rittenburg Bank) coordinating size and placement with the surrounding exhibit elements. Attachment No. 04 includes photos of all listed examples.
Sea Stars, 3 different species (up to 2 of each species) California Hydrocoral, 3 clumps 3 species of sponge Strawberry anemones Barnacles Rock fish, one
The subtidal sea creatures and ocean sunfish are intended to be touched and must be fabricated from appropriately durable material. They will be adhered to the wall with painted mural surrounding them. Submit material specs and substitution requests for review and approval when design submittal is provided.
Provide and install all hardware and adhesives necessary to install all models Installation hardware should allow for “easy” ability to remove models for cleaning, remodeling, etc.
Install models in final position in interpretive center as defined in the concept plan.
Installation of exhibit materials must follow and meet appropriate trade standards for each material, ADA requirements, and that of the IBC 2012.
B. Delivery Schedule
The models will be delivered to:
Point Reyes National Seashore 1 Bear Valley Road Point Reyes Station, Ca 94956 ATTN: John Dell’Osso
Period of Performance
The models must be completed and installed by August 7, 2015
Hanging models will be installed last, and the models that go on the wall need to be coordinated with the muralist and NPS.
