Diving birds - pelican -breaking through surface

The room is underwater and teems with aquatic life, swirling around as if in motion, and migrating towards the rich coral reef. Sculptural, bas relief and mural elements blend to blur the outlines of the room

Seabirds - including migra-tory shearwaters, great white shark and two species of dolphins hang in ceiling space (see plan drawing)

Panel interprets upwelling, bringing phytoplankton and krill. Photosynthesis releases oxygen into the sea and into our air.

Panel introduces the main themes of the exhibit.

Natural light shines through transparent phytoplankton on skylight

There is a sense of mass mammals are drawn to Cordell Bank (featured on the end wall) and its rich sanctuary waters

Large mammals - orca, whales, dolphins. Mural becomes 3D sculpture topo

Buildout in front of the window shows sculptured coast of California. Upwelling colder water replaces surface water blown south by prevailing winds.

Shape of the coastline topo in the foreground matches the shape of the coastline seen through the window.
