Salivary Gland Biology and Dysfunction; Immunology and Inflammation; Sensory Biology; and Skeletal Biology. Within these research areas, our scientists are tasked with elucidating the molecular mechanisms that underlie a plethora of biological processes as they relate to both basic research and disease manifestations in a clinical setting.

The Combined Technical Research Core (CTRC) provides essential Flow Cytometry analysis and Florescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS) services to the entire NIDCR/DIR and its collaborators.

Purpose and Objectives The laboratory requires a high dimensional FACS system for single cell isolation.

CONTRACTING WITHOUT PROVIDING FOR FULL OR OPEN COMPETITION

(INCLUDING BRAND-NAME) DETERMINATION

The determination by the Government to award a contract without providing for full and open competition is based upon the market research conducted as prescribed in FAR Part 10—Market Research, specifically the review and evaluation of the responses to the sources sought notice published in the FedBizOpps and FedConnect on May 15, 2020 for a period of ten (10) days via Solicitation 75N92020Q0085 titled Florescence Activated Cell Sorting System.

The initial market research conducted by the program office provided a quote from Becton, Dickinson and Company, which is a large business manufacturer of the cell sorter equipment. The market research conducted by the contract specialist also provided the same result for the large business equipment manufacturer via Google search. There were no other sources located through the SBA Quick Market Search, GSA eLibrary, GSA Advantage, or the NIH Contract Directory. The FPDS-NG search yielded one result, the manufacturer Becton, Dickinson and Company. In addition, a sources sought notice was posted on May 15, 2020 for a period of ten (10) days which yielded no responses. No small businesses were located.

The features of this equipment are necessary to perform florescence activated cell sorting experiments and are not found among other brands.
