About this file
This document contains a set of questions and answers (Q&As) related to a Request for Quote (RFQ) for a Low Power Dual-Comb Spectrometer solicitation issued by the Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
The key details from the Q&As are:
- The solicitation requires the use of highly nonlinear fiber for carrier-envelope-offset detection, and requests evidence that this fiber is compatible with future space operations, including details on dosage, operating lifetime, and acceptable shielding.
- The solicitation does not specify a reference laser wavelength, but states the reference wavelength must be within the oscillator spectral bandwidth.
- The solicitation calls for "all actuators required to phase lock the two frequency combs", and clarifies that other actuators beyond the two specified PZTs are acceptable as long as they meet the required bandwidths.

Page Section Para.
1 Specifications
The solicitation states "If highly nonlinear fiber is used for carrier-envelope-offset detection evidence must be provided that this fiber is also compatible with future space operations." Highly nonlinear fiber use in space operations is dependent on the space environment. Can you provide more details on what the "future space operations" entail? Dosage, operating lifetime, possibly acceptable shielding, etc?
Contractors should specify an estimated lifetime in a GEO environment
2 Specifications The solicitation doesn't specifify a reference laser wavelength. Is there a specific wavelength requirement?
The reference wavelength must be within the oscillator spectral bandwidth.
3 Specifications
The solicitation says, "All actuators required to phase lock the two frequency combs," but the specification table calls out bandwidths of the cavity length actuators and includes two PZTs. Can you clarify if the system requirement is just the phase lock acutators, or if two PZTs are explicitly required for other reasons? Are other actuators acceptable?
Other actuators are acceptable but must meet the bandwidth requirements
