Below are questions regarding the window pressure vessel. The answers are below each question:
1). You want a total of four (4) thermocouples per optical bomb, do you want all four installed? It will require additional machining.
Only the wire feedthroughs are necessary (i.e. the fitting is present, but the actual thermocouples do not have to be installed). The thermocouples do not need to be installed.
2). I quoted RTD's, our's are designed to handle the higher pressures and used in our strand burner system. Would our RTD's be acceptable?
Yes, but we would like to know the specifications of the RTD to make sure they're compatible with our existing temperature controllers. Thermocouples are preferred.
3). If you want thermocouples which type?
K-type 4). The low pressure bomb you want two heads one with a window and one with the 1/2" dia. Hole?
The top portion where the top window is located should be removable. A second piece (or head as it's referred to above) should be able to quickly release pressure through a bursting disc or quick action valve.
5). The high pressure bomb do you still want the 5th window centered at the top of the radius of the head?
No 5th window is needed for the high pressure bomb 6). I yes do you want it also made of ZnSe also?
n/a
The use of metal to glass fused windows depends on a couple of criteria:
1. Window units must be replaceable without the use of specialized equipment
2. Windows must have the future option of being coated with anti-reflective coatings in the future.
3. The units should be able to be manufactured by multiple vendors for future replacements and modifications
1). Currently there is only one T/C port. Do you want an additional three T/C ports machined into the vessel?
One T/C will be sufficient if it can be removed to replace the temperature sensor barring damage during a test.
2). RTD's are 100 ohm.
That is fine.
3). Quick release valve or burst disc would be customer supplied.
That is fine.
Question: I want to verify that eliminating o-rings will not exclude our offer for these pressure vessels. The solicitation has line items for separate windows, window retainers, and o-rings. However, the windows we plan to include with the pressure vessel are a single fused piece and do not require any separate components for installation. I'd be happy to elaborate on any aspects of these windows or the assembled vessels. If the end user really wants 3-piece windows we can also provide that instead.
Answer: Eliminating o-rings will not necessarily exclude the offer from the possibility of being awarded, but it will depend on the vessel design, ability to use specialty coated windows as describe in the previous response.
Below is additional information added with amendment 0002:
The contractor provided the following info:
If I'm reading correctly, the end user has a specific window design in mind for an application that is not mentioned in the solicitation. Will the solicitation be amended to detail that requirement? Here's the part I'm concerned about: "...ability to use specialty coated windows as describe in the previous response." As there is no mention of coatings in the solicitation the end user may end up with a test bomb that doesn't work for their needs.
The end user provided the following info:
We do not have a specific window design in mind. What was meant by the previous response is that we do not want the design to be subject to a kind of window that requires special manufacturing (e.g. fused metal to glass) if it doesn't provide us with the flexibility to use other windows in the future that may be needed for a given experiment. If the fused metal to glass windows have the ability to be coated or other window options are readily available then it isn't an issue. The coated windows were brought up as they are products that can be bought and used in an o ring system as long as the dimensions are correct. I hope that clarifies the previous comments.
