(SOW)
(VIRGINIA PAYLOAD TUBE FACILITY (VPTF) MODIFICATION TO SUPPORT
PAYLOAD HANDLING SYSTEM STATIC AND DYNAMIC LOAD TESTING)
PR No. 1300796298
1.0 Background
The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport (NUWCDIVNPT), Platform and
Payload Integration Department (Code 40) is the lead activity for submarine launcher system in-service engineering, systems development, and payload integration. As such, NUWCDIVNPT
Code 40 is formally assigned with testing a new Payload Handling System (PHS) in the VPTF.
Prior to installation on a submarine, the PHS will be installed in the VPTF for the purpose of conducting static and dynamic load testing. In FY18, a Technical Instruction (TI) was issued for
Beardsley Design Associates (Beardsley), the original VPTF Support Frame designer, to determine the impact of the PHS in the VPTF.
Beardsley conducted a structural assessment of the VPTF Support Frame and determined that due to the loads associated with the PHS, modifications to the existing Support Frame are necessary.
The project sponsor for the Platform and Payload Integration Department is PMS394. The type of funding to be used under this purchase order is Research, Development, Test & Evaluation
(RDT&E).
