RFQ-N64498-16-T-0077 – ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS

Question: "Regarding openings "F" & "G" of the Sump Tank and openings "T" & "U" of the Overflow Tank. Can the flanged joint at the pipe-elbow be eliminated and the elbow welded directly to the pipe exiting the tank?"

NSWCPD Response: Yes. Regarding nozzles "F", "G", "T", and "U" as shown in Figures 1 and 3 of Appendix B, the joints connecting each weld neck flange to the bottom of each 90 deg elbow can be eliminated and the elbow can be welded directly to the pipe exiting the tank. However, the slip-on flanges at the discharge of each of these elbows as shown in Figures 1 and 3, which will be used by NSWCPD to eventually connect the overflow tank to the sump tank, shall remain and should not be eliminated.

Question: Is there a preference between 304 or 316 SS grade material for the tank?"

NSWCPD Response: 304 SS material for both tanks is preferred for material compatibility with the lubricating oil system (also constructed of CRES 304) and to reduce material costs but CRES 316 material is also acceptable per Appendix B (Section 5.A).
