REQUEST FOR SPECIFICATION CLARIFICATION
SPECIFICATION ITEM NO.: 120

TITLE: MSD UNIT DECKING REPAIRS (VR 17-047)
QUESTION:
Specification lists quantities to renew, but does not define where steel is getting replaced.
This could change the cost dramatically. For example, if MSD Cell Block foundations need to be removed to accomplish the steel under them.
Please clarify exactly where the renewals will take place.
ANSWER:
The steel deck plates under the MSD is to be replace as 3.1 and 3.2 has approximate square footage.
(7,650 lbs.) 10’ x 10’ ABS Grade A or B Steel Plate 25.5 lb. /sf, three (3) sheet of plate seam to seam. Service area 2.
3.2.2 (5,100 lbs.) 10’ x 10’ ABS Grade A or B Steel Plate 25.5 lb. /sf, two (2) sheet of plate seam to seam. Service area 5.

QUESTION:
Paragraph “7.1.1 Note: Main Air Ejector to be removed in WI 208.”
Work item 208 is the Boiler Sliding Foot item and not the Air Ejector.
Contractor will disregard this paragraph and submit pricing to R&R the Air Ejector in way of steel repairs.
Please confirm.
ANSWER:
213 is the Boiler Sliding Foot. 208 is Air Ejector Refurnbishment

QUESTION:
In reference 2.4 MSC Drawing No. T AH 19 320-8497888, O2N2 Producer Room Power and Lighting Modifications, Item 3 on the bill of materials calls out an AQB-A101 50 amp, however the part number HFD3050 is called out. These are in conflict of each other. Contractor believes part number should be 458D509G13.
Please confirm or advise.
ANSWER:
Part number 458D509G13 is correct.
SPECIFICATION ITEM NO.: 304
PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO: Abstract and Excel spreadsheet in the 304 Reference folder
TITLE: SWITCHBOARD CLEANING (VR 17-65)
Abstract: This item describes the requirement to clean the Ship Service, Auxiliary, Emergency and 24 VDC Switchboards and their respective circuit breakers.
The Customer as a Excel spreadsheet in the 304 Reference folder, named Switchboard Breaker Repair, with a list of eight (8) circuit breakers. This reference is not listed in the work item.
Question: Is the contractor to complete the circuit repairs to the eight (8) Circuit breakers listed the excel spread sheet only or all circuit breakers in each switchboard.
If the contractor needs to clean and test all switchboard circuit breakers as per reference 2.1, please provide a list.
Contractor to open, inspect and clean all swatchboard circuit breakers as the work item states and using the references provided. Do not due any repairs without a CCO.

The main switchboard will be shut down for a minimum of 10 hours.
If the vessel uses battery operated battle lanterns for emergency lighting, will they need to be disabled during the switchboard?
If the battery operated battle lanterns need to be disabled, please provide total count of battle lanterns onboard the Mercy.
No battle lanterns onboard. Emergency lighting is accomplish by installed lights fictures.

TITLE: SHAFT ALLEY STAIRWELL MODIFICATION
Referenced drawing shows the installation of a platform to access the port side of shaft alley thwartship catwalk. It was noted that there are six steam lines directly in the way of installing the new platform. How would you like to address these pipes?
These lines are steam drain lines and should be rerouted not to interfer with platform. Lines are ½” and ¾” steel pipie sch 40.

ANSWER:
Only the steel decking plates around the Forced draft blowers is being replaced not under them. No removal of forced draft blower required.

TITLE: BOILER DECKING REPAIRS (VR 17-011)
QUESTION:

Please clarify exactly where the renewals will take place.
The deck area from the boiler casing on port side to the side shell is the area that the deck needs renewal. From even with front of boiler starboard side aft to shell stiffners deck needs renewals. The approximately square footage is in the work item. No deck renewals will require removal of boiler and boiler foundations.

PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO: 7.2.2
TITLE: MARINE SANITATION DEVICE (MSD) SERVING AND CONTROLLER REPLACEMENT (VRR 17-0150)
Paragraph 7.2.2 requires replacing all cabling to the MSDs with same as original cabling, and secure and label new cabling in accordance with MSC GTRs. The specification does list any references with the information that is needed accomplish the removal and renew cabling.
Please provide a reference drawing with the types and lengths of cabling that need replaced.
ANSWER:
Use the References drawings in work item 305 for installing the motor controllers for correct sizes of cables but length will have to be measure as you remove calbing or when ship arrives.

PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO: 7.2.12
TITLE: Steam System Valve Repairs (VR 17-218)
Paragraph 7.2.12 requires contractors to provide new Leslie control valves on the port and stbd boilers. The following ID # AF2EJH1H1DH2AE000, was provided for pricing and procuring. . This is not a valid part # it is a code from Circor Select Sizing Program and cannot be used to ID the correct valve.
Please provide the correct part # or valves details and size for pricing.
4” Flange valve, F11 steel, operating steam pressure 870 PSI, 750 deg F temp. Valve should open slow to fully open and close quickly. Valve should fail close.

Starboard side from boiler FWD out board corner to side shell and AFT to the two starboard side shell stiffeners. No boiler foundations or any other equipment foundations are required to be removed.
