SEWAGE SYSTEM VACUUM PIPING REPLACEMENT

1.0 ABSTRACT

1.1 This item describes the requirement to replace apportion of the Vacuum Sewage Collection System piping.

5.0 NOTES

5.1 The Contractor and all Subcontractors, regardless of tier, must consult the General Technical Requirements (GTRs) to determine applicability to this work item. In performance of this work item, the Contractor and all Subcontractors, regardless of tier, must comply with the requirements of all applicable GTRs.

5.2 The Contractor and all Subcontractors, regardless of tier, are advised to review other work items under this contract to determine their effect on the work required under this work item. Many of the definitions relating to performance of this work item are found in Work Item 001.

5.3 This ship contains High Voltage (HV) electrical systems. The Contractor and all Subcontractors shall obey all posted and verbal instructions regarding safety and exclusion from High Voltage areas. At no time shall a Contractor or Subcontractor approach, work on, or enter a High Voltage area without proper authorization.

5.4 THE T-AKE CLASS VESSELS ELECTRICAL COLOR CODING DOES NOT FOLLOW CONSISTENT COLOR SCHEME. THE SHIP IS KNOWN TO HAVE CURRENT CARRYING CONDUCTORS COLORED GREEN, BLUE, BLACK AND WHITE. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ASSUME ALL ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE HOT UNTIL TESTED OTHERWISE. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL TEST ALL ELECTRICAL CABLES TO ENSURE THEY ARE DEAD PRIOR TO WORKING ON THE ITEM.

5.5 Any and all hazardous waste must be disposed of following all local, state, and federal regulations.

6.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE REQUIREMENTS

6.1 All work and testing shall be in accordance with the latest SOLAS regulations, ABS rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessels, and to the satisfaction of and in the presence of the ABS Surveyor (if required), Manufacturer’s Representatives (as necessary), and MSC Representative (MSCREP).

6.2 All welding requirements shall be accomplished by certified welders. All welders shall be certified to perform the type of welding required and documentation of such shall be current. Fire watches shall be posted by the Contractor during hot work.

7.0 STATEMENT OF WORK REQUIRED

7.1 Develop a Process Control Plan for operational testing, sequencing the legs, replacing, testing and completion testing. This will be provided to the MSC REP prior to any work starting.

7.2 Operationally test all piping legs using the vacuum gauges at the manifold in the MSD Room to verify system has no leaks prior to starting, using reference 2.1 and 2.2 as guidance.

7.3 Provide all tools, material and labor to replace all the vertical piping noted in Para 3.1.1, using reference 2.3 as guidance.

7.4 All work areas shall be maintained clean and safe for passage.

7.4.1 Floor coverings will be installed on all decking’s that material and foot traffic for this job encounter.

7.4.2 Proper ventilation will be used to minimize the order and gases from the opening of the system.

7.5 Remove and replace interferences in way of the vacuum sewage system piping replacement. This shall include, but is not limited to, ceiling panels, bolted access panels, ducting, lagging, valves, toilets, etc. Interferences shall be reinstalled using new lagging, gaskets, and stainless steel fasteners.

7.6 The Vacuum Sewage System Piping is broken up into eight (8) legs. Each leg groups two (2) decks together separating each leg by port and starboard. For example: 07/06 Starboard is one (1) leg, 07/06 Port is one (1) leg, 05/04 Starboard is one (1) leg, 05/04 Port is one (1) leg, 03/02 Starboard is one (1) leg, 03-02 Port is one (1) leg, 01/Main Deck Starboard is one (1) leg, and 01/Main Deck Port is one (1) leg.

7.6.1 Physically identify the piping legs that will need to be replaced per Para 3.0 by marking the pipes for the MSC REP to confirm.

7.7 Piping sections to be replaced shall be sequenced in repair so not to interrupt all sewage service throughout the ship.

7.7.1 Identify, with the assistance of the MSCREP, which legs of the piping will be work on first then second until completion.

7.8 Tag-out all required systems and equipment. Drain and dispose of any liquids in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations".

7.9 Replace the sections of piping with CFM identified in Para 3.3.

7.9.1 All hangers and fasteners shall be reused.

7.9.2 If any discrepancies are identified, a Conditions Found Report will be provided to the MSC REP as soon as possible so not to delay the repair.

7.10 Non-Destructive Test (NDT) by way of Dye Penetrate Testing all welded joints to ensure that no holes and cracks exist.

7.10.1 All NDT shall be witnessed by the ABS Surveyor and the MSCREP.

7.11 Before moving on to the next segment, contractor shall operationally test each leg before painting application and cutting of the next leg of system.

7.11.1 There shall be no vacuum leak or degradation of the vacuum gauge. Repeat for each leg replaced.

7.11.2 All operational testing shall be in the presence of the ABS Surveyor and the MSC REP.

7.12 Include the cost of removal and disposal of all hazardous waste products and solutions under work item 023. All hazardous waste products shall be removed and disposed of in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the work item 023 within this work package.

7.13 Replace any system components damaged by the accomplishment of the piping replacement.

7.14 Preparation of Drawings: None Additional

7.15 Inspection/Testing

7.16 Prime and paint new surfaces to match the surrounding areas. All disturbed areas shall be wire brushed to remove scale, rust and loose paint; then cleaned, primed and painted to match surrounding areas.

7.16.1 First Coat: Amercoat 240 Buff 3-4 Mils

7.16.2 Final Coat: Amercoat 240 Off White 3-4 Mils

7.16.3 Stenciling: Black as required.

7.17 Manufacturer’s Representative: None Additional
