USNS COMFORT (T-AH 20)

REQUEST FOR SPECIFICATION CLARIFICATION

1. QUESTION:

a. Para 7.10 directs the contractor to resurface the flight deck in accordance with MSC Standard Work Item #009. Is the intention of this direction to resurface the ENTIRE flight deck or just the new and disturbed flight deck coatings resulting from the temporary helo hangar renewal?

ANSWER:

Note: A standard helo landing zone consists of a white painted square with a circle in the middle and an “X” from coner to corner of the square.

The “X” legs are guides for the helo to use to line up with for landing.

Due to the tempory helo shelter now installed, Comfort deck now only has the line from Aft STBD corner to the Port Forward corner, thus the helo can only approach the deck from the STBD side Aft.

Intent of 7.10, Is to Resurface the disturbed areas of the deck where the shelter frame gets removed, apply the Non-skid, paint disturbed areas and paint the second white leg to the “X”, which then allows for the approach from the Port Aft.

7.12 Test and inspection in the presence of attending ABS surveyor, and NAVAIR. NAVAIR tech rep “if required” will be GFS provided. If NAVAIR tech rep notes additional requirements / square footage of deck replacement, the additional should be recored and issued to MSC rep as a Condition Report. MSCREP will then provide RFP documentation to the MSC Contracting official, who will negotiate the addition work requirmenets prior to any additional work being done.
