Di-Series Digital Test Instrument in support of the

Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Keyport

1.0 Background

The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Keyport (NUWC Keyport) is responsible to provide Depot test and repair capability for electronic assemblies from multiple programs. In performing this function, NUWC Keyport primarily uses a Teradyne Spectrum 9100 Series test set with M9-Series Digital Test Instruments (DTIs) to test and diagnose the highly complex digital electronic assemblies. The M9-Series DTIs currently used by the test set are beyond end-of-life and will soon be unsupported by the vendor (Teradyne, Inc.). To extend the useful life of test sets using M9-Series DTIs, Teradyne, the original equipment manufacturer, developed the backwards compatible

Di-Series DTI. The Di-Series DTIs can replace the M9-Series DTIs with minimal updates to existing tests and will provide additional testing capabilities. It is anticipated that this upgrade will extend the useful life of the Teradyne

Spectrum 9100 Series test set by at least 10 years.

2.0 Objective

The objective of this upgrade is to address M9-Series DTI obsolescence issues before negative effects on Depot repair capability occur. It is NUWC Keyport’s objective to replace the five (5) existing 48-channel M9-series DTIs and associated central resource board, along with all necessary associated cables and hardware, with five (5) 48-channel Di-Series DTIs and a Di-Series utility instrument. The replacement DTIs shall be form, fit, and functional replacements with the current capability of the Spectrum 9100 Series test set and shall operate with all existing

Depot certified tests performed on the Spectrum 9100 Series test set.

3.0 Scope of Work

The contractor shall provide five (5) 48-channel Di-Series DTIs, one Di-Series utility instrument, one Di-Series guided probe, and necessary cable kit with associated 76-pin mini-coax funnel interfaces for the Di-Series DTIs.

The contractor shall provide appropriately trained, experienced, and qualified personnel to perform the test set upgrade from M9-series DTIs to Di-Series DTIs. The work will be performed at NUWC Keyport on the Teradyne

Spectrum 9100 Series test set, S/N 0305551. The upgrade shall include an update of the Spectrum 9100 Series’ self-test to incorporate Di-Series DTI self-tests.

The replacement DTIs shall be capable of running without modification to or translation of existing Depot certified tests which were developed using the following development tools:

Teradyne TestStudio

Teradyne M9 Soft Front Panel (used to create digital test binary, .dtb, files)

National Instruments LabWindows/CVI to perform calls to Teradyne M9-Series Application Programming

Interface (API) functions

Teradyne Guided Probe Database editor (used to create .gpd files)

The replacement DTIs must be able to interface with the Spectrum Cross Point Matrix (SCPM) and seamlessly operate in conjunction with the SCPM without modification of existing Depot certified tests.

The replacement DTIs shall provide a means for performing guided probe backtracing capability using existing

Guide Probe Database (.gpd) files without modification.

The replacement DTIs must interface with the general purpose interface (GPI) currently used on the Spectrum 9100

Series test set. The current GPI is a Virginia Panel 90-Series using a 76-pin mini-coaxial connector to connect to each DTI module and utility module.
