Gamble-II replacement water system
Specifications for the refurbished Gamble-II water delonlzation and circulation system
Carry out the following tasks for upgrading the water delonlzatlon and circulation system that services the coaxial intermediate store (IC) and output line (OL) of the Gamble II pulsed-power generator at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) In Washington DC. All work will be carried out In or above rooms located In NRL Building 71.
1. Remove and replace the existing 45 gal/min pump located under the stairs In room 1102 (Gamble-II room) near the east wall with a new 45-gal/mln pump. This pump is used exclusively for water reclrculatlon and as an assist for emptying the IS and/or OL.
2. Remove and replace the copper pipe that exists from the bottom of the Gamble-II IS and OL, through the aforementioned 45 gal/min pump, and to the east wall of room 1102 with schedule 80 polyvinyl chlorlde (PVC) pipe maintaining all unions and specialized drains unless otherwlse specified by the customer. Remove and replace all valves with manual PVC valves. Replace the section of Tygon tubing under Gamble II required to allow physical separation of the IS and OL with new Tygon tubing of the same length and diameter.
3. Remove and dispose of existing sink In room 1111 and replace with a new sink of similar type but about half the length. Plumb in hot and cold water and preserve the eyewash functionality.
4. Relocate the deionlzatlon system from the east wall of room 1118 (Hawk Marx room) to room 1111. Replace old delonlzatlon tanks and media with new deionlzatlon tanks and new media capable of a 4Sgal/mln flow rate and attaining a 10 megaohm-cm resistivity with no more than 24 hours of continuous recirculation.
5. Using new schedule 80 PVC and existing PVC, per the customer direction, Install In and above room 1111, In proximity to the new delonizatlon tanks and easily accessible by NRL technicians, all required piping and valves to allow NRL personnel to Implement the following cycles:
a. Empty (from full) the Gamble-II IS and/or OL directly Into the existing storage tanks In room 1118. Use the existing 300 gal/min pump In room 1118 In conjunction with the new 45 gal/min pump located under the stairs in room 1102 (see 1, above). Use existing PVC pipe on the second floor to the east of room 1111 per customer direction.

STATEMENT OF WORK
Gamble-U replacement water system
b. FIll (from empty) the Gamble-II IS and/or OL from the existing storage tanks using the existing 300 gal/min pump (both located In room 1118), and existing PVC pipe on the second floor to the east of room 1111, directly through the bottom of Gamble II IS and/or OL.
c. Recirculate the water In the Gamble-II IS and/or output line to attain a resistivity of 10 megaohm-cm at a flow rate of 45 gal/min with no more than 24 hours of continuous reclrculatlon. Use existing PVC and Tygon tubing on the second floor to the west of room 1111, per customer direction.
6. Remove and replace the existing carbon filter, located along the east wall of room 1118 and used for city water refill/makeup, with taller, existing spare tank and filter.
Remove and replace old copper piping and adapt the new piping to the new height of the replacement tank using schedule 80 PVC. Resultant filtered city water should be directed to the top of storage tank after being filtered by the carbon filter. Install new manual valves as needed to accomplish this task.
7. Install particulate filters at no fewer than the followlng location: In room 1118 on the output side of the existing 300 gal/min pump to filter water flowing from the storage tanks to Gamble II during a fill cycle.
8. Install resistivity sensors, with sensitive range from at least 1 to 20-megaohm-cm, to monitor the resistivity at no less than the following locations: on the Input side and 01:1tput side of the delonlzatlon tanks. The resistivity sensors shall be read out at the Gamble-II control area, located at the outside of the room 1111 west wall.
9. Install particulate filters and oil filters at no less than the following location: on the Input side of the delonlzation tanks.
10. Install a flow meter at no less than the following location: on the output side of the deionlzatlon tanks.
11. The contractor shall provide all the new components and hardware, as well as the labor for removal of old components/hardware, Installation of new components/hardware, and disposal of all discarded components/hardware.
12. AII new valves shall be manual and all new piping shall be schedule 80 PVC.
13. Work schedule should be coordinated with customer, but preferably finished before 31 August 2018. Unless prior contracting officer approval, work will be done during normal NRL business hours, Monday-Friday, 0700 to 1600, no holidays.
14.Bidders MUST be present for the site visit before bidding. For inquiries or more Information, please contact the POC, Lasonia Brown, 202-767-2819, sonia.brown@nrl.navy.mil.
