Questions and Answers
0. What is the peak number of letters that have to be produced on a daily basis?
FEMA averages over 4 million letters per year. The daily output is highly dependent upon disaster activities. The historical maximum daily production was more than 525,000 letters/day.
0. What is the number of logical pages per letter?
The average pages per letter printing front and back are 7 pages.
0. What kind of information are you trying to track?
The date/time the letter is printed The username of the person whom printed the letter The date/time the letters is mailed Letters deleted before/ after print
0. What are your current security Standards and application roles?
All letters mailed from FEMA have PII (Personally Identifiable Information). Mailroom user roles must be created and approved by supervisors through NEMIS Access Control (NACS).
The software must be on the approved DHS TRM (Technical Reference Manual).
If it is not on the DHS TRM it must go through the approval process to get a waiver request.
0. How often do you want posting of data back to NEMIS?
We would like the most update date information posted to NEMIS as quickly as the information is available.
0. What database is NEMIS running?
Oracle 10g supports NEMIS
0. Where is NEMIS currently installed and running?
NEMIS is currently installed and running behind the FEMA firewall on the FEMA intranet. Several aspects of NEMIS are web enabled and available on the FEMA intranet. However, more of the NEMIS processing is done through a client application also behind Firewall.
Note: The vendor facility is outside the FEMA firewall and currently access NEMIS through government laptops w/ VPN to FEMA.
0. What format do you want or need the print reports in?
CASS Report: to collect and provide information to United States Postal Service for discounts
0. What languages would you like to be supported?
Multi-language text will be supplied by translators at FEMA Headquarters. Translations can not be processed on the fly due to multiple dialects. The following six languages are projected : English, Russian, Chinese, Hatian Creole, Spanish, French
0. Will NEMIS be requesting status via a Webservice?
Yes, NEMIS could import information via a webservice.
0. USPS Integration The Intelligent Mail barcode, formerly referred to as the 4-State Customer barcode, is a new Postal Service barcode used to sort and track letters and flats.
Since March 2007, mailers using the Intelligent Mail barcode have been able to qualify for automation prices as long as all o ther automation requirements are met including meeting addressing, readability, and other requirements for processing on automated equipment.
