QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Satellite Production Vehicle
Q1: RF Equipment - Since this does not represent a full and complete system, the hardware in this quote will obviously interfacing with other existing equipment such as video sources, modulators, upconverters, amplifiers, etc.
A1: System is to be a turnkey system that includes at KU-Band satellite uplink. Nothing will be provided from DMA other than the option file required for the IDirect system. It is up to the company to indicate the required equipment in order to do so.
2 EA Encoder, HD/SD, MP2/MP4
a. Will the input be SD/HD-SDI? HD/SDI this should be your source from the production side of system; Does the encoder need to auto-detect and up/down-convert the video? Yes
b. Will the audio be embedded in the SDI? Should be embedded, however this is dependent on your system design; How many groups and pairs? 2 groups/ 4 pair; What is the preferred audio codec, MP1L2, AC3 2.0 or 5.1, AAC-HE? MP1L2 with capability of AC3
c. RF Option- IF at 70/140, L-Band, Ku Band? KU Band; 10 MHz reference included? If required;
In or out of band? Not sure what is being asked here; What bandwidth or symbol rate does it need to be licensed for? Need to be able to be frequency agile and symbol rate agile; DVB-S, S2, or S2EXT with Carrier ID? DVB-S/S2 QPSK and 8PSK Modulator
1:1 Ku-SSPA
a. Wattage requirement? 150W minimum, but the requirement was to uplink on KU band anywhere in the continental US; Rackmount or antenna-mount? Depend on your design
b. Local control panel or PC managed? Either would work. PC managed would be preferred, but it is dependent on your design
c. IF or L-Band to Ku up-converter included, or separate unit? This is dependent on your design
Spectrum Analyzer
a. Monitoring of Ku up/down is specified, however the frequency range is listed in L-band. Do you need to monitor Ku or L-Band? It is KU band. Need to be able to read the entire KU Band spectrum.
L-Band was listed as that is what is typically used in industry
b. If monitoring L-Band, do you have a block down-converter from Ku to L? All-inclusive turn-key system. If required you must provide
c. If monitoring up and down, do you need to do both simultaneously, or one at a time with input selection at patchbay or RF router? One at a time
1.5M Ku Band antenna system
a. What is the deployment time requirement from stowed to operational? Time to acquisition of satellite from stow position should be less than 15 minutes
b. What is the wind loading requirement for both operation and survivability? Wind-Survival minimum of 65MPH Deployed; 80MPH Stowed. Wind operational minimum of 30MPH with gust to
45 MPH
c. Are there any MIL-Spec environmental requirements? MIL STD 488-164B
IDirect e8350
a. “System” must be switchable between encoder and modem. Are you talking about the e8350 itself, or external elements of which the e8350 is a subsystem? Please describe the operational environment and situation(s). The intent is to have a e8350 Idirect modem in the system so that we can use either the IDirect modem to link via IP to DVIDS in Atlanta, GA or to use the encoder only to transmit Video via DVB-S or S2. It should allow for the use of the Modem or the encoder-modulator but neither would be operated at the same time
2 EA Satellite receivers
a. Pretty much all receivers actually receive in L-Band, down-converted using a C, Ku, DBS or Ka LNB mounted on the antenna feed. Will a satellite receiver that receives in L-Band suffice? Yes
b. Is this a data receiver, or an IRD with RF receiver and video decoder? IRD to receive and decoded video
c. We assume that it will need to receive the signal as defined in 1c above, and decode the video as defined in 1 and 1a above. Correct
IF/L-Band patch Panel
a. How many ports? By Design. Should allow for connection of all RF equipment and polarities
b. Patch cords and jumper plugs as well? yes How many? Enough to allow for each interconnection by design
RF Control panel
a. Is this for the redundancy switching of the SSPA’s, or are we talking about an L-Band router?
Should be to change over system as well as putting system on dummy load. In the event that one path goes down we need to have the ability to change over to another RF path
b. If the former, rackmount or PC based? One or other or both. This is also by your design
c. If the latter, how many inputs and outputs? Enough for all RF equipment as well as the ability to connect external test equipment if there is an issue that needs to be troubleshot.
