PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Naval Special Warfare Command

Aqua Lung Survival Egress Air (SEA)

1. BACKGROUND

1.1. Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewmen (SWCC) and embarked personnel must be able to quickly and safely abandon ship due to uncontrolled flooding, capsize, catastrophic battle damage, fire or any number of other emergency conditions. All personnel must be able to move from their assigned positions within the craft to an appropriate abandon ship position or station while fully mission equipped with minimal impediment to their movement. Such movement on Naval Special Warfare (NSW) advanced combatant craft that have a fully enclosed or semi-enclosed cockpit (Combatant Craft Heavy (CCH) and Combatant Craft Medium (CCM)) may be hindered by contaminated air (smoke, toxic/noxious gasses) or water (submerged or flooded spaces) and impeded by narrow or obstructed passageways and embarked equipment. As such, SWCC and embarked personnel must have access to an emergency breathing apparatus to extend the time available to effect escape. Personnel embarked on board NSW craft that are semi or fully enclosed must have the means to abandon ship in the event of any emergency condition in order to prevent serious injury or loss of life, a Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) issue.
