Questions asked during the site visit at Kirtland AFB, NM on 9 December 2011.
1. What Government agencies will fund SVAT?
ANSWER: The funds will come from various sources such as AFRL core funding, other AF customers such as SMC, and other DoD offices such as MDA.
2. What is Quantum Leap?
ANSWER: “Quantum Leap” is a research thrust area of the Advance Space Power Section (AFRL/RVSVP). Technologies within this research thrust area are very high risk and very high payoff (quantum leap in performance over the current state-of-practice).
3. Is GNC affected by the JMAPS termination?
ANSWER: GN&C is not affected by JMAPS termination, at least as far as SVAT is concerned.
4. Is RVS aware of Title III and does it relate to the RVS GNC work? If so, how?
ANSWER: The Goverment, AFRL/RVS, recalls Title III as being Industry-based related funding that is being handled by RX (the Materials Directorate). The relationship of GN&C with Title III would most likely be with respect to AFRL/RVS's star tracker work since it has very little U.S.
industry base, and potentially CMG. However, AFRL/RVS already has contracts with U.S companies for CMGs. However, since GN&C is not chartered to address the industry base (RVS is chartered for technology development), Title III should not have any impact on
SVAT.
5. Does DSS interface with SPAWAR?
ANSWER: DSS works with SPAWAR, NASIC, NRO, among other programs.
In addition to the above, the Government is working on publishing the Draft RFP questions and answers as soon as possible.
