100 Ton Trane Mobile Chiller QUESTIONS

Our engineers, while reviewing the 100 Ton Chiller specification, and other technical references, as well as views of the pictured mobile trailer examples, are concerned about the designated 'Hydraulic Dovetail' trailer cited in the specification. Of concern is the logical far aft position for the Chiller where the Hydraulic Dovetail platform is mounted. The appropriate and noted location for the Chiller should not be on a hydraulic dovetail platform. The intended use suggests there is no practical rationale or useful reasoning for the hydraulic dovetail design feature. Is there some utility purpose or mission need we are unaware of?

• There is no need for the hydraulic dovetail feature on the trailer. A simple flatbed trailer with a kingpin coupling is what is required to fulfill this acquisition. The specifications have been updated accordingly.

Design engineering indicates that it is important to locate the chiller on the trailer so its load weight is appropriately distributed to the axles and not the goose neck's aft platform. Please advise as to the indented function of the dovetail for this application or if any appropriate "Equal" flat platform trailer design would be acceptable.

• An “equal” flat platform will be acceptable for this application. The specifications have been updated accordingly.

What is the required voltage for the chiller?

• The chiller must be a 460V/60 Hz/3 phase model. Some facilities only have 208V/60 Hz/3 phase service. We will need the multi-tap transformer when hooking up to these facilities.

25GN-40 8,750# 102" x 40' Tandem Dual Wheel Gooseneck (Straight) Gooseneck uses a 2/ 5/16 inch ball. In the picture, it states in needs to be a king pin trailer.

• We are specifically requesting a king pin connection for the trailer. Operations at Kirtland AFB does have the capacity to use this equipment. See attached photos to the specifications for an example of our current mobile chiller set up.

CHILLER REQUIREMENTS FOR ABOVE MOBILE TRAILER

The Chiller must meet the following minimum requirements: • 100 Ton Trane Chiller / 500 GPM—or equivalent • Integral Hydronic Piping Package o 5” Sized Schedule 40 Welded Steel piping o (2) 25 HP Armstrong Pumps (Lead/Lag Control) o (2) TR150 VFD for Balancing o 500 GPM / 100 feet head / Glycol o Isolation Valves o Triple Duty Valve o Suction Diffuser w/ Strainer o ASME Air Separator o Non-ASME Expansion Tank o Pressure and Temperature Gauges

• Portable Unit Modification o Camlock Electrical Connectors o Set of flexible hoses w/ hose reels (200’) o Mounted to Trailer (bolted)

• Standalone Controls

The standard flow on a 100 ton chiller is 240 GPM. 500 GPM is too much flow. Max flow on this size units about 350 gpm.

• Utilizing a maximum flow of 346 GPM will be acceptable for this application.

What size ASME Air Separator o Non-ASME Expansion Tank are you requesting and what does the rating need to be.

• An air separator and expansion tank is unnecessary here because we are hooking this portable chiller directly to a facility which already has those components. The specifications have been updated accordingly.

Normal size piping is 4 inch for a 100 ton chiller. 6 inch is ok, but 5 inch is non-standard for temp hoses and connections at unit.

• Either a 4” or 6” is acceptable. We have adapters as necessary.

There is not a hose reel big enough for 200 feet of flexible hose. In the picture, the hose is rolled up and placed in boxes.

• Placing the hose lengths within boxes is acceptable.

1. RFQ chiller size requested is a 100 ton unit, the Trane 100 ton CGAM unit has a flow rate of 145 GPM minimum and a maximum of 346 GPM which is considerably less than the (2) 500 GPM pumps requested in this build. Is this something that engineering has already taken into consideration?

• The Pumps shall be sized to the chiller. I have updated the specifications accordingly. Trane 100 ton CGAM chiller comes with its own pump. That pump will meet the specifications.

2. Trailer model listed in the RFQ is a 25GN-40 straight gooseneck. Which does not come with a dovetail and ramps or a kingpin hitch type? Also the provided pictures show a deck where the spare tire would normally be located is that a requirement?

• A flat trailer is acceptable for this application. A spare tire per industry stand will also be acceptable.
