1. SCOPE
1.1. This scope of work will cover manufacture and balancing of two couplings matching the design of the current compressor IV coupling and two set of rigids matching the drawing in appendix A.
1.2. Coupling is used in a high speed centrifugal compressor to connect the high speed pinion gear to the turbo compressor rotor.
1.3. The unit is driven by a 1000 HP motor at 1200 RPM through a 10:1 speed increaser so that the coupling operates at 12000 - 12350 RPM. Motor, Gearing, and Compressor specs are outlined in Appendix B.
1.4. Coupling is designed such that the male geared spool piece and slide axially in the female geared hubs. This axial motion allows for the unit to compensate for the thrust load on the compressor rotor.
1.5. Contractor is to perform all required work in a period not to exceed fourteen weeks from receipt of order.
1.6. Contractor will provide all test results, and documentation on manufacture and material quality to the contracting officer.

3. Base CLN 1: Coupling Manufacture
3.1. General: The work required by this contract shall be performed in accordance with this Statement of Work.
3.2. Manufacture two (2) new high speed gear type couplings (hubs and spool piece) to match the design of the existing coupling based on the information obtained during the reverse engineering inspection.
3.2.1. Original part shall not be required for addition inspections and will not be readily available again.
3.3. Manufacture two (2) new rigids and keys to match drawing supplied in Appendix A.
3.4. Assemblies shall be supplied with nitrided gearing and both rigids to be supplied finish bored and keyed to match the existing equipment.
3.5. Materials used shall match the material of the existing coupling and rigids. Heat treatment and hardness of the parts shall match the original components or better. Submit materials information and quality data to the contracting officer.
3.6. Material processing and nitriding shall be performed in accordance with ANSI/AGMA 2004-C08
3.7. Couplings shall be high speed balanced (12000 – 12350 RPM) with their respective rigids to the ISO 21940-11:2016 standard minimum ISO G 2.0 half key standard. Submit results balancing to the contracting officer.
3.8. Hubs, spool piece, and rigids shall be marked to distinguish the two sets from each other in a manor such that the parts would not be easily mixed together. Ex. Mark all parts of Each set as “A” or “B”
3.9. Hubs, spool, and ridges shall be match marked for correct alignment and orientation to the way they were balanced.
3.10. Perform mag particle, and Dye Penetrant testing on coupling hubs, spool, and rigids. Test results and photographs shall be submitted to the contracting officer.
3.11. Perform final visual inspection of all parts.
3.12. AEDC will accept the part upon receiving:
· Both couplings, rigids and associated parts
· Documentation passing all test specified above.
· Material property’s, quality, and heat treat/processing data
· Certification from the manufacturer that the part is sound to operate at rated speeds of 12000-12350 rpm.
3.13. Contractor shall coordinate with AEDC to ship parts from the contractors facility to 10905 New Hampshire Ave. Silver Spring, MD 20903 Tunnel 9 Arnold Engineering Development Complex-White Oak, Maryland at the completion of all work.
