Question Set #2
22 Jul 22
1. The sliding gate was revised to 60" however I am still being told that will not fit and the mezzanine would have to be 3' wider to accommodate that. It may just be the design of this particular manufacturer, but for the sake of keeping this moving, is a swing out gate or lift gate an acceptable alternative?
Question 1 answer: A lift gate shall be an acceptable alternative to a sliding gate, a swing out gate shall not be acceptable. Appendix F has been updated to reflect this.
2. The request for a nominal 48"+/- 1-1/4" width for the M3 cabinet in Appendix D limits the product options to a single manufacturer. Would a nominal width of 46" +/- 2" be acceptable in order to ensure competitive pricing?
Question 2 answer: The range of acceptable widths has been increased. Appendix D has been updated to reflect this change.
3. A 20" drawer is requested for the M3 cabinet in Appendix D. The largest drawers made by any manufacturer that we are aware of are 13" to 14". Would five 7" drawers and one 13" drawer be an acceptable alternative or is there a different configuration that might be requested?
Question 3 answer: Five 7” drawers and one 13” drawer will be an additional acceptable configuration for type M3 cabinets. Appendix D has been updated to reflect this.

Question Set #1
20 July 2022
1. In regards to the sliding gate on the mezzanine, a manufacturer is saying there is not enough space for the stairs and a 6 foot gate to be able to open completely within the 15'. Is a swing or lift out gate acceptable?
Question 1 answer: They are correct, a 72"W gate will not fit, Appendix F has been updated to change this requirement to a gate that is 60"W. See the attached revised Appendix F)
2. For the cage, it doesn’t specify if a ceiling is required. Please confirm.
Question 2 answer: A ceiling is not required as part of the pilferable fencing.
3. For the mobile aisle, it asks for fire retardant plywood to be the material for the ramp. Is a covering required? Would a metal ramp also be acceptable?
Question 3 answer: No specific covering is required for the ramps as long as is meets the other specifications of the appendix. A metal ramp shall also be acceptable.
4. For the bin shelving it appears the correct size is 36”W x 12”D x 60” tall. The wording on the drawing does not match the dimensions shown or written in the specs and just want to make sure it’s correct.
Question 4 answer: The bin shelving shall be 36”W x 12”D x 60”H as shown on the drawing and as specified in section 3.2.4.1 in Appendix E
5. For the lighting under the mezzanine it asks for T-8 fluorescent fixtures and lights, are LED lights an acceptable alternative?
Question 5 answer: LED lights are an acceptable alternative as long as they meet all luminescent requirements.
6. For the workstation top going over the 8 M1 cabinets in bldg. 35, is 2 30"x120" tops acceptable? 52" would not cover the 2 cabinets depth completely and isn't an available size from the manufacturer.
Question 6 answer: (2) 30”W x 120”L tops are not acceptable. A singular continuous top shall be required; however it should measure 56”W not 52”W. Appendix D has been updated with this correction.
7. For the workstations, can you elaborate with more details? Are these just adjustable legs with hardwood tops? But you want it to hold 4,000 pounds?
Question 7 answer: Yes, workstations are to have adjustable legs with hardwood tops; however, the minimum weight capacity should be 1,000 rather than 4,000 pounds. The revised Cover PD has this update reflected in it.
