Repair HVAC PMEL

Project #15-0027 Vendor RFIs and Government Responses 1

30 May 2018

1. While looking at the lighting plan (E300) A1 doesn’t appear. Also, A2 doesn’t match lighting schedule. Please advise.

Response: A1 is located exterior of Mech Rm’s 120, 127, 128 & 129, and Rm 221 (Rm “221” on the drawings is a typo, and should have been Rm “121”).

A2 symbol (all dark) on the lighting schedule on Sht. E405 has been changed to match the A2 symbol on Sht. E300. Revised E405 drawing is attached to this RFI.

Project #15-0027 Vendor RFIs and Government Responses 2-8

31 May 2018

2. Notes D04 & D05/AD101 call for removal existing mechanical louvers and vent and filling walls with new brick. Please identify locations of these items and/or provide opening sizes since none is shown on drawings.

Response: Sizes and locations of mechanical louvers/vents to be removed are shown on the mechanical drawings.

3. General Note D/A101 calls for partitions type S1.0. Please provide details for the type S1.0.

Response: Partion type is single layer of type “X” GWB each side of metal stud wall system. Overall width of new wall system to match adjacent wall.

4. Please provide details for door and frame types per Door Schedule on A101.

Response: Drawing A101 “PMEL Door Schedule” provides the necessary detail to what type of door/doorframe to be used. Three types of doors, most are full slabs, and fur with fire rated glass. All doorframes are to be welded hollow metal frames, and the hardware sets are listed in the specifications.

5. Please clarify a discrepancy for ceiling in Room 118A between drawings AD101 and A201. If we remove existing ceiling, would we need to install new ACT there or leave it opened to the deck per A201?

Response: The existing ceiling in Rm 118A (Light Room) is to remain.

6. Please clarify the extent of work for replacing existing board insulation and new semi-rigid insulation: do we need to cover the entire ceiling or just ~4’ along the perimeter walls? Do we need to remove existing ceiling insulation?

Response: If you are referring to the Reflected Ceiling Plan Legend notes on Sht. A201, the intent is to provide new semi-rigid R-10 insulation with foil faced vapor barrier on the exterior walls above the suspended ceiling up to the roof deck. The walls to receive this insulation are identified by the dashed line. In Room 118 and above Room 119 (Cold Room), the exterior wall already contains this insulation above the suspended ceiling, but some of it has been removed and/or has become detached from the wall. It is this insulation that is either to be repaired (restored to new condition) or replaced per the notes (Contractor’s discretion). A couple of pictures of this damaged/missing insulation, taken above the Cold Room ceiling, is included with this RFI response.

7. Please confirm that the Government is responsible for removing all equipment, furnishing and furniture from the work area.

Response: The Government is responsible for removing all equipment, furnishing and furniture from the work area, except for that identified in Specification Section 01 01 00 paragraph 1.05.C.

8. Will the Government permit to use the facility restrooms during the construction? Will the Government allow to use the facility premises for the field office?

Response: The facility restrooms will be under renovation in this project, to include new plumbing. The restrooms will be down during this portion of the construction.

The field office can be in the facility if can make this work. Note that virtually every room has some sort of construction going on. An office in Rooms 118A, 119, 125A, & 126 is prohibited.

Project #15-0027 Vendor RFIs and Government Responses 9-12

9. Will the Government accept other than Allerton fire alarm system?

Response: Yes. Must meet Spec Section 28 31 76.

10. Will the asbestos abatement contractor be stripping piping of the asbestos containing insulation, or entirely removing the pipe including the insulation?

Response: That is entirely up to the contractor. The only piping identified with asbestos containing insulation is shown on Sht’s PD101 and MD103, and that piping is shown to be removed.

11. For hand-carry bids who do we contact and are there different instructions for hand-carried bids?

Response: Contact Lt Evan Ewing and TSgt Kyle Wheat (listed in solicitation) for any questions regarding hand-carried bids. Instructions in the Solicitation are applicable to all bids whether mailed or hand-carried. Turning in bids the day of the opening must be done before time of opening which is 2:00 PM EDT 18 June 2018.

12. Specifications pages 439-443 call for signs as outlined, but there are none to be found on the Drawings. Is there signage on this project?

Response: Yes. New room # signs.
