Robotic Laser Depaint System

Questions and Answers #2

1. Question: Is continuous wave required or can a pulsed laser be used for the ablation process?

Is there a similar system already in use within the Air Force that we can use as a reference and if so do you have details on the equipment being used?

Answer: Per the PD continuous wave is required. The is a similar system at Hill AFB. We do not have the details on the equipment. It is not a requirement to match what is at Hill.

2. Question: Water curtain filtration was recommended. Is this a requirement or can a properly sized fume extraction system be employed?

Answer: There is no mention of water curtain filtration in the PD, I'm not sure where that came from. The filtration system shall the requirements in the PD.

3. Question: Recommended laser ablation scanner?

Answer: The scanner shall meet the requirements in the PD.

4. Question: Recommended Fanuc Robot?

Answer: The robot shall the requirements in the PD.

5. Question: Are all axes on Fanuc F#124473 coordinated? What communication bus system does this robot have?

Answer: All the axes are not coordinated. The X axis is composed of two motors and is in Group

3. The Z and Y axes are extended axes in Group 1 with the robot. The turntable is in Group 2.

The robot communicates with the HMI/PLC via Ethernet.

6. Question: Are all axes on Fanuc F#121529 coordinated? What communication bus system does this robot have?

Answer: All the axes are not coordinated. The X axis (Rail) is an extended axis in Group 1 with the robot. The Z axis (Elevator) is in Group 2, and the turntable is in Group 3. The robot communicates with the HMI/PLC via Ethernet.

7. Question: What is the allowable height of the work envelop for the depainting system in building 20171?

Answer: Required working height of 18' (Depaint items up to 18' tall).

8. Question: In section 3.1.D.vi the system shall employ Handling Tool, is this requirement met by using the Fanuc RoboGuide – Handling Pro software?

Answer: Yes, but more specifically some robot models can be loaded with Paint Tool, Dispense

Tool, Arc Tool, Pallet Tool, Handling Tool, etc. We are specifically requiring Handling Tool. If

Paint Tool was used, Fanuc RoboGuide ‐ Paint Pro would be used instead of Handling Pro.

9. Question: Would the Government please provide Appendix J and K, referenced in sections

3.2 and 3.3?

Answer: Appendix J and K are typos, it should read Appendix F and Appendix G, respectively.

10. Question: Is a mobile gantry with hoist acceptable to meet the requirement in section

3.1.A.ii?

Answer: No, the intent is to have a permanent overhead gantry style hoist installed, that has electric motors driving the hoist East, West, North, South, Up and Down. The motors shall be controlled with a wired pendant.

11. Question: Would the Government please specify if a manual or electronic controlled hoist is required for the two ton hoist in requirement 3.1.A.ii?

Answer: See the answer to question number 4.
