PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

FOR

OC14851 CNC UPGRADE PURCHASE

24 Feb 2016 Tinker Air Force Base Oklahoma City, OK 73145

1.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

1.1. The purpose of this Product Description is to upgrade and update the electrical components of the Shotpeening system including the CNC, Servo Drives, motors, and PLC system for OC 14851. This machine is used for the F100 core workload for 76 PMXG.

1.2. The systems shall be modified to have FanucTM components and PRIMSTM software on the PLC system to interface with the CNC.

2. BACKGROUND

2.1. The Allen Bradley electrical components on the OC14851 are degrading and need to be replaced with components that are supportable. The current Allen Bradley CNC components are no longer being manufactured and refurbished replacement parts must be located and configured to work with the equipment. However these refurbished components have also proven to be unreliable.

2.2. The CNC precisely positions the nozzle and the shot flow and air pressure parameters. It works in direct conjunction with the motors and servo drives which direct the shot stream onto the surface of the part. Therefore when the components are inoperable the entire process ceases. This equipment needs upgrading to prevent future breakdown of the machine.

2.3. The current PLC utilizes PRIMS software to interface with the CNC PRIMS user interface is the standard operator interface on the PLC for the 76th Propulsion Maintenance Group uses to program and control the robotic arm/gantry motions, air pressure, and shot flow parameters, for its shot peening equipment. Use of this software aids in the minimization of single point failures due to transferability between similar equipment. Machine operators and robot programmers are trained and experienced in its operation and the software has proven to be reliable.
