Performance Work Statement
Additional Testing Requirement
C-17 Engine Fire Extinguisher- Ametek PN M472555-2, NSN 1680-01-586-4187JY
1.0 This statement of work describes additional testing required by USAF on Ametek PN M472555-2 to address deficiencies in qualification testing, not performed or requested during SAR (Source Approval Request), nor addressed during First Article Testing. USAF to provide 3 each PN M472555-2 for testing. Any additional material needed to perform testing shall be provided by the contractor. Order of testing shall be defined by the contractor.
2.0 Applicable Documents
Government Documents
MIL-C-22284A Container, Aircraft Fire Extinguishing System, Bromotrifluoromethane
MIL-HDBK-472 Maintainability Prediction
MIL-STD-810C Environmental Test Methods
MIL-STD-810D Environmental Test Methods
Contractor Documents
17B6D2100, Rev C, Douglas Aircraft (CAGE 88277)
3.0 Perform the following testing qualification tests using any method:
3.1 Perform mounting lug test in per MIL-C-22284A, paragraph 4.6.4.
3.2 Leakage. Perform leak testing on 3 each PN M472555-2, per paragraph 4.6.2 of MIL-C-22284A or the assembly shall be heated to a temperature of 109 (+5) °F. While at this temperature, the container shall be tested for leakage with a halide lamp set at the maximum sensitivity level, or by an equivalent instrument.
3.3 Rechargeability. Charge, discharge, and recharge (1) each PN M472555-2 with nitrogen to 800 PSIG at 70 ˚F, 10 times to demonstrate verification of 17B6D2100, Rev C, paragraph 3.2.1.4. Result: After 10 cycles PN
M472555-2 still maintains pressure with no discernable leakage.
3.4 Design Life. Provide a written analysis suggesting it would be logical to assume 17B6D2100, Rev C, paragraph
3.2.1.5 has been met. Result: A logical written analysis.
3.5 Discharge Rate Test. Perform on (1) each PN M472555-2, testing per 17B6D2100, Rev C, paragraph 3.2.1.6.
Result: Provide graph showing change in mass to demonstrate 95% discharge in 0.9 seconds.
3.6 Gunfire Requirement: Perform gunfire testing per MIL-C-22284, paragraph 4.6.10. Result: The container shall remain in one piece. (2 each PN M472555-2 destroyed in this test)
3.7 Verify dimensional limitations, mounting, and weight of the units provided (17B6D2100, Rev C, paragraph
3.2.2). Result: A table listing this information.
3.8 Maintainability: Provide information from RAC showing similar fire extinguisher maintainability prediction.
See 17B6D2100, Rev C, paragraph 3.2.4. Result: Demonstrate compliance.
3.9 Environmental Testing.
3.9.1 Temperature. Perform testing per 17B6D2100, Rev C, paragraph 3.2.5.1 Result: Demonstrate compliance.
3.9.2 Altitude. Perform on (1) each PN M472555-2, testing per 17B6D2100, Rev C, paragraph 3.2.5.2.
Result: Provide graph showing change in mass to demonstrate 95% discharge in 0.9 seconds at altitude of 50,000 feet pressure equivalent.
18 Apr 19
3.9.3 Humidity. Perform on (1) each PN M472555-2, testing per 17B6D2100, Rev C, paragraph
3.2.5.3. Result: Provide results indicating requirement was met.
3.9.4 Fungus Resistance. Perform on (1) each PN M472555-2, testing per 17B6D2100, Rev C, paragraph 3.2.5.4. Result: Provide results indicating requirement was met.
3.9.5 Salt Fog. Perform on (1) each PN M472555-2, testing per 17B6D2100, Rev C, paragraph 3.2.5.5.
Result: Provide results indicating requirement was met.
3.9.6 Sand and Dust. Perform on (1) each PN M472555-2, testing per 17B6D2100, Rev C, paragraph
3.2.5.6. Result: Provide results indicating requirement was met.
3.9.7 Shock. Perform shock testing per 17B6D2100, Rev C, paragraph 3.2.5.7. Result: Demonstrate compliance.
3.9.8 Random Vibration. Perform random vibration testing per 17B6D2100, Rev C, paragraph 3.2.5.8.
Result: Demonstrate compliance.
3.9.9 “G” Load Testing. Perform “G” load testing per 17B6D2100, Rev C, paragraph 3.2.5.9. Result:
Demonstrate compliance.
3.10 Provide the product or military specification utilized in paragraph 3.3.3.5.1 for potting. Was it MIL-S-
8516?
3.11 Confirm equivalence/interchangeability of MS3459W10SL-3S and MS3459-10SL-3S connectors.
3.12 Allow use of Component Maintenance Manual for PN M472555-2 for source data to create a technical order for PN M472555-2.
4.0 Results and Documentation/Deliverable.
4.1 Document test result for paragraph 3.1.
4.2 For performance of paragraph 3.2 document there is no detectable leakage or leakage shall not exceed 6.10
X 10-9 in3/sec.
