JACKET, IMPROVED, PHYSICAL TRAINING UNIFORM

The following exceptions will apply when CRFD/PD 04-08 is used to manufacture running suit jackets for the United States Air Force Academy cadets.

Paragraph 3.2. Description. Replace the entire paragraph with the following:

The jacket shall be 100% polyester (see Table VII) AF blue shade 1651, fully lined with white 100% polyester mini-mesh. The jacket shall have long raglan-styled sleeves, collar, two welt pockets, and elastic at the wrists and jacket bottom. The jacket shall have a full front opening slide fastener and its pockets shall have slide fasteners. The jacket shall have a 4 1/2 inch (+/–1/4 inch) dart at top of sleeve on shoulder. The raglan sleeve shoulder seams shall be trimmed with Air Force gray shade 1655, reflective piping by Safe Reflections or equal.

Paragraph 3.2.2. Logo description. Replace the entire paragraph with the following paragraph:

Jacket Front - The AF Academy logo shall be embroidered in white on left breast of the jacket. The finished embroidery on left front shall match the standard sample for size, stitch count, and finished appearance.

Standard sample may be obtained from the contracting activity. The logo shall be embroidered in a polyester thread conforming to DoD Heraldic Yarn for Embroidery and Ribbon, Cable # HA White 67101 with a stiff backing. The embroidery backing shall be a pellon cut around and trimmed to 1/2 inch to 1 inch around the design.

The vertical placement of the logo shall be as in the below chart, which is the distance from the Raglan shoulder seam and collar seam sew-lines intersection and the bottom center of the logo.

The horizontal center of the logo shall be the line parallel to the front zipper top stitching line and passing through the Raglan shoulder seam and collar seam intercept (sew lines). All thread ends that are visible on the item shall be trimmed to a length of not more than 1/4 inch.

Jacket Back Heat Transfer – The AF Academy logo shall be a heat transfer on the back of the jacket. The heat transfer shall be Safe Reflections Eclipse Silver reflective, AF Certified reflective silver or equal. Or equal transfers shall be submitted to USAFA with a comparative independent lab report and supplier certification (Certificate of Compliance) that the material is equal especially in regard to adhesion and lumens of reflectivity. The back AF Academy logo shall be 10 inches in height and 8.50” in width.

The word “Academy” shall rest on the vertical centerline of the back.

The reflective material shall be tested in accordance to the ANSI/ISEA 107 American National Standard for High-Visibility Safety Apparel and Headwear. The performance requirement of the reflective material shall be tested and certified for the Level 2 category. The testing shall include initial photometric measurements followed by physical testing including abrasion, flexing, folding at cold temperatures, temperature variation, and washing (25 cycles) input reflective material. A certificate of compliance will be acceptable for this requirement. After application of the transfers on the garments an additional test shall be performed to ensure proper application of the transfers. The garments shall be washed at a water temperature of 80 – 105° F with a mild detergent for five (5) cycles with the machine set on a delicate cycle. A visual inspection shall be performed after the five (5) cycles. There shall be no evidence of flaking or peeling. A certificate of compliance will be acceptable for this requirement

Logo Design – The jacket shall have the following logo embroidered on the front left breast and heat transferred on the center back.

3.5.9. Labels. Replace the entire paragraph with the following paragraph:

A combination contractor identification and care shall be place label shall be placed in all garments. The label shall be cloth, cotton, permanent-coated, conforming to Type VI, classes 1, 2, 10, and 14 of Specification DDD-L-20. The label shall show the following information:

* Applicable data to be inserted by the contractor when labels are printed.

** Applicable data to be stamped in by contractor using permanent-type black ink after labels are printed.

A Code 39 bar code label shall also be affixed to the individual garment package. The Code 39 bar code shall be a removable paper ticket of commercial quality with the USAFA 10LRS/LGLC stock number and Code 39 bar code. The paper ticket shall contain a short item description to include size in plain text.

3.6. Patterns. Replace the entire paragraph with the following paragraph

Standard patterns to be used for cutting the contractor’s working patterns shall be furnished by the Government in AccuMark electronic format. The working patterns shall be identical to the Government patterns except that additional notching to facilitate manufacture is permissible. Also minor modifications are permitted where necessary to accommodate manufacturer’s processes, the exception noted in this document and using automatic equipment. These modifications shall not alter the serviceability or appearance requirements. A ½ inch seam allowance shall be used to set sleeves, make pockets, join lining sides, and set sleeve linings. A ¼ inch seam allowance shall be used to make the pocket flaps, set the pocket flaps, make the collar, and set the collar. The seam allowance for the front slide fastener varies depending upon the size of the fastener tape.

Paragraph 3.7.8. Add to follow variations: The slide fastener type may be coil or continuous and the color may be black. The size may be larger than size 3 but no smaller.

Figures and Graphics. Ignore all figures and graphics pertaining to the USAF running suit. The USAF Academy graphics in this letter shall replace the AF graphics.
