About this file

This PowerPoint file details requirements for a specialized military mobility trailer requested by the 57th Rescue Squadron (AFSPECWAR), accompanied by a pre-solicitation notice (FA568225Q2008) from the Department of the Air Force seeking industry feedback. The trailer must function as a mobile command center with sleeping quarters for 6-8 personnel.

The required specifications include sleeping accommodations for 6-8 personnel with Twin XL-sized beds that can double as medical litters, 5-day water capacity with on-demand heating, climate control for extreme environments (-20°F to 100°F), dual power systems (diesel generator and solar), extensive communications capabilities (Starshield terminal, SATCOM, HF/VHF/UHF antenna mounts), two workstation areas with dual-monitor setups, specialized lighting modes (white/red/IR), off-road suspension compatible with F-250 towing, military-appropriate aesthetics (dark green/FDE), and storage for tactical gear. The pre-solicitation emphasizes a maximum weight of 6,000 lbs, globally available replacement parts, and interest in armor options. No award will be made based on responses to this market research.

57th Rescue Squadron: AFSPECWAR Trailer

CapabilityDetails
SleepingSleeps 6-8 x 6’2”, 200lb men (roughly a Twin XL bed). Ideally beds can also be used as litters for patients. Consider litter stanchions like a C-130. Consider something like Navy bunks.
WaterCarries enough water for about 5 days of operations with 1 x 2 min shower per person per day and 2 gallons of drinking water per person per day. Has on-demand water heater.
EnvironmentalHeating, Air Conditioning, and insulation to operate in northern Sweden/Finland during the winter and in Eastern Europe in the summer. Screens and windows that allow cross-breeze without AC.
Cooking1 small stove to be able to boil water & cook. Ideally also a small fridge. These are both lower priority.
PowerDiesel generator, solar panels, & battery bank. Lots of both 110V and 220V outlets inside. Need racks to be able to charge 12 x Harris AN-PRC-163 batteries and 4 x 2590 batteries at the same time while also running 3 laptops and 3 TVs 24/7.
CommunicationEmpty spot to embed a Starshield (military Starlink) terminal in the roof. In-line SATCOM antenna (like you’d see on top of an aircraft). Have a weatherproof port that allows us to pass antenna cables up to the roof for various types of military HF/VHF/UHF antennas. Have a mount where a Voyager 8 can be placed to allow SIPR access.
PlanningA small mission planning area with 2 workstations (each with 2 laptops and 2 monitors/TVs). Ideally have a hide-away whiteboard and TV that can be used for an outdoor briefing under an awning.
LightingNormal LED lighting inside but with the option to go red-light only or IR-light only. Should have a master mode switch somewhere that can prevent someone from accidentally turning on white or red light.
MobilityOff-road suspension that will allow this vehicle to be pulled down dirt roads during the muddy season in Eastern Europe. Able to be towed by an F-250. All season or off-road tires to be able to operate on highways, icy roads, or back roads without losing control without switching tires. 1-2 spare tires mounted on board. Skinny enough to drive down European roads.
AestheticsDark military green or flat dark earth coloration. Ideally matte. Not camo. Tinted windows so you can’t see in. Blackout shades so we can use light inside without even a pin-prick leaking out at night. Slide-out optional.
StorageEnough storage to allow 8 guys to carry a helmet, plate carrier, rifle, and small backpack. Ideally internally stored.

Concept: A mobile command center combined with a sleeping trailer that allows about 8 people to move every 8 hours with minimal logistical support. Personnel should be able to sleep in the back and use computers while on the move. Compromise luxury to add capability.
