RFQ N. FA5682-17-Q-0003

Wi-Fi Internet Service for Dormitory Buildings at Aviano AB, Italy

1.

Q: Are direct optical fiber links from building n. 1442 to each dorm building already available?

Are they available during all the duration of the contract?

A: The fiber comes from the Comm Room 1325 to the bldg. 1496 (Zappala Hut), not from bldg. 1442 (1325 is next to 1442).

2.

Q: It is possible to reuse all of the existing devices?

A: Access points belong the contractor.

3.

Q: In case is i t possible to use the existing devices and in order to deliver the maintenance service, can you provide the List of Material (LOM) indicating - for each one of them - type, model and serial number?

A: There is no specific LOM.

4.

Q: What are the coverage area requirements? Is it possible to get the related drawings for each building?

A: User would have to define. If deemed necessary the drawings may be provided upon award.

5.

Q: Are the switches that feeds access points included in the scope of work?

A: The assumption is that the switches are included in the scope of work while the access points should be provided by the contractor.

6.

Q: Do you have a separate List of Material (LOM) for acceptable equipment to accomplish the SOW?

A: No specific list of acceptable equipment is required for commercial internet services in the dorms.

7.

Q: Is it correct to assume that the Department of Air Force will provide rackspace for installation – if any – of equipment in each building’s network cabinet?

A: Space is available in each dorm for commercial internet.

8.

Q: Please confirm that internet network services shall be provided only through a fixed network (not mobile)

A: The manner of how the internet is provided does not matter (whether fixed or mobile).

9.

Q: During the survey we understood that the routers (Access Points) currently installed are owned by the contractor that provides the actual service. So new Access Points are required anyway, isn't it?

A: Yes, the contractor shall install new access points of their choice.

10.

Q: Existing Cabling from switches located at ground floor to the router located at second floor can be considered available and usable.

A: Yes.

11.

Q: Since the connections between the Access points in each building and the Router/firewall are provided directly, by the switches owned and managed directly by the BASE, is it possible to have their configuration? In this way the migration from the old solution to the new one will be easier and smoother, the contractor's devices and the base devices need to work together to provide the service.

A: Yes

12.

Q: How many concurrent Wi-Fi users do you estimate in the peak hours?

A: No more than 30 per building at a time on weekends.

13.

Q: Please confirm that the overall bandwidth requested (1x100 Mb) would be shared between the all dorms?

A: Yes, the overall requested bandwidth for all buildings is 100 Mbps.

14.

Q: It would be possible to use the fiber already present into the base and connecting bldg. 1325 to bldg. 1496 and from bldg. 1496 to the dorms?

A: There’s a fiber path that can be used from bldg. 1325 and passed through base cable to the dorms.

15.

Q: Is the catalyst equipment present today at bldg. 1496 owned by the BASE? In case of positive answer, it would be possible to use it? If not, can we install our into the bldg. 1496 and install it on the existing racks present there?

A: The existing switch in Zappala Hut 1496 is BASE owned and connects the same with the Dorms.

16.

Q: Do you need Cluster high availability or a single FW is enough for Dorms project?

A: A single should suffice.
